For weeks, they listened to children's fears, comforted families, and helped communities recover after the Southern Mindanao earthquake.

But who was looking after them?

For Dulce Esparagoza and more than 50 Child Development Workers in Malapatan, a psychosocial support debriefing facilitated by ChildFund and Ha Uman Assn Inc. , in partnership with the Municipality of Malapatan, became an opportunity to process their own experiences, find strength in one another, and continue their work with renewed confidence.

This is a story about resilience, recovery, and the people behind the healing. 💚

Taos-puso kaming nakikiramay sa mga pamilyang nawalan ng mahal sa buhay sa trahedyang naganap sa Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Kaisa rin kami sa pananalangin para sa paggaling ng mga nasaktan at sa paghilom ng buong komunidad. Nawa’y matagpuan ng mga naulila ang lakas at pag-asa sa gitna ng matinding dalamhati.

Habang nagpapatuloy ang opisyal na imbestigasyon, hinihikayat ang lahat na huwag magbahagi ng sensitibong mga larawan at video, hindi beripikadong impormasyon, o anumang haka-haka. Igalang natin ang privacy at dignidad ng mga biktima at kanilang pamilya, at sumangguni lamang sa mga opisyal at mapagkakatiwalaang pahayag.

Ang mga paaralan ay dapat maging ligtas na espasyo para sa lahat ng bata at kabataan. Nananawagan kami para sa mabilis, patas, at sensitibong imbestigasyon, sapat na psychosocial support sa mga apektado, at responsableng pagbabahagi ng impormasyon. Sa gitna ng dalamhati, pairalin natin ang malasakit, pananagutan, at pagkakaisa upang mapanatiling ligtas ang bawat bata. # # #

Recovery is about more than rebuilding homes. It's about ensuring families have the support they need to move forward, while giving children the space to heal, play, and be children again. ✨

Through ChildFund's partnership with Canva Foundation and in collaboration with the LGU of Malapatan, Sarangani, 300 earthquake-affected families received flexible cash assistance to help meet their most urgent needs, while 500 children participated in psychosocial support activities and received art supplies that nurtured creativity, well-being, and hope.

By working together, we were able to reach families when they needed support most, helping parents and caregivers address immediate needs while creating safe spaces for children to heal and regain a sense of normalcy.

As we celebrate 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗮𝘆, we are reminded that no matter where young people are, even in the wake of disaster, their aspirations for dignity, learning, and hope remain universal. When everything feels uncertain, play and art can help children find comfort, healing, and a sense of normalcy.

Thanks to the generous support of Canva Foundation, ChildFund distributed 500 learning kits containing coloring books, pencils, and crayons to 500 children in two evacuation centers in Malapatan, Sarangani, as part of our response to the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Southern Mindanao.

These simple tools are helping children express themselves, spark their creativity, and build resilience during difficult times. Special thanks as well to our local partners and the Malapatan LGU for helping make this possible.

Seven weeks into the earthquake response in Malapatan, Sarangani, families are still facing the realities of recovery.

Through ChildFund's partnership with Canva Foundation, we provided multi-purpose cash assistance to families in two evacuation sites, helping them address their most pressing needs while planning for what comes next. Special thanks to the Malapatan LGU for their unwavering support in making this response possible.

Together, we delivered timely support, restored hope, and helped communities take the next steps toward recovery. We continue to provide life-saving support wherever we are needed.
