The Recording Academy just made history by officially adding a Best Asian Pop Music Performance category to the Grammy Awards for the very first time.
The new category will recognize artistic excellence in Asian pop performances originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, covering K-pop, J-pop, and C-pop recordings that feature meaningful use of one or more Asian languages, with the 69th Grammy Awards airing February 7, 2027 on ABC, Disney Plus, and Hulu.
The announcement has already sparked debate online, with some fans seeing it as a long overdue recognition of Asian music's global influence and others questioning whether it isolates Asian artists from mainstream categories.
Grammy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. described Asian pop music as one of the most significant and sustained forces in music right now. With Ado having already expressed her wish to win a Grammy, this new category makes that dream a very real possibility, which artist do you think will win the very first one.
