Sen. Grace Poe pushed for the passage of the Revised Animal Welfare Bill on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

Poe sponsored Senate Bill No. (SBN) 2975, reminding her colleagues of the long-overdue amendment to Republic Act No. 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act of 1998. SBN 2975, she said, calls for more stringent penalties against animal cruelty, and the creation of the Animal Welfare Bureau under the Department of Agriculture as the "primary guardian of animal welfare across the country."

"Like any law, it must evolve to address the emerging challenges of animal welfare," Poe said.
