APRIL 2026 TRANSPARENCY REPORT
As the season of summer La Nina continues, across the world, the effects of the direct US-Iran conflict that started a month ago still reverberates across the global economy; resulting in higher costs of logistics and disrupting many routes and schedules.
Our work in Library Hub Philippines was definitely affected as well since our deployments and engagement missions try to come as close to the actual experiences felt by our community program partners.
One case in point is our continuing support of the Dumagat communities of Nayon, Rizal who traverses the mountain region of Sta Ines to Malate Manila just to be able to trade their kalakal. Though we have not visited their terrestrial abode for some time, their participation at the St Scholastica IP Farmers' Market is an opportunity for us to engage with some of the key representatives of their community and to also financially support their livelihood program. The conflict in the ME has made this arduous and often dangerous journey of theirs less feasible now due to the ballooning cost of transporting people and cargo from the province of Rizal.
In other deployments, the sending of unaccompanied cargoes via bus lines have also been disrupted as bus and shipping companies have resorted to lesser trips and more maxed out loading strategies in light of higher fuel costs and lesser passengers. These adjustments consequently adds an additional uncertainty and loss of transparency in how and when remote deployments are handled to and from Manila.
Despite these current setbacks, LHP was still able to remotely deploy to six existing programs across various provinces.
Currently, public schools are still within their 2 month summer break while some of the administrative and leadership staff are within the process of initiating themselves to what will be another transformational change in the next school year, that being the transition to the tri semestral format.
Moreover, most of the country is dealing with a very hot La Nina season that is proving to be the precursor to drought in many areas. We have also gotten some reports of one of our programs in Pandan, Catanduanes suffering from a fire accident resulting in the total loss of their reading center (and thus all our past donations as well). π For this, we will eagerly await their rebuilding and we will definitely serve their needs again once the opportunity arises.
This coming month of May is slated to be one filled with lots of developments as more trainings and orientations for the new school format are expected as well as the Brigada Eskwela season. We also have other engagement missions scheduled as the summer season still provides many community programs time for other activities. We pray that the middle east conflict will in time resolve and that our government will act accordingly to help alleviate the unprecedented disruptions caused in our country.
We would like to thank once again all our existing programs and all their contributors for taking on this work of service and direct form of nation building.
