HOW TO SURVIVE THE ECONOMIC CRISIS (WITHOUT A WAGE INCREASE 😃)
Five Tipid Tips for BPO Workers

1. Redefine “Full Meal”
Rice + toyo = classic.
Rice + sabaw from someone else’s ulam = innovation.
Rice alone = character development.

2. Master the Art of Libre
May birthday? Kahit di mo kilala, kilala mo na ngayon.
May meeting with snacks? Biglang “interested stakeholder” ka.
Libre is not charity. It is strategy.

3. Treat the Office as Your Natural Habitat
Aircon, tubig, kuryente, minsan may libreng kape.
Bakit ka pa uuwi?
Your real home is your production floor.

4. Normalize “Alay Lakad.”
2 km? 5 km? Doesn’t matter.
If you don’t need to swim, it’s walking distance.

5. Practice Photosynthesis During Rest Days
Food is expensive. The sun is free.
Stand outside, absorb sunlight, and convince yourself you are converting it into energy.
Side effect: mild delusion, but hey, tipid.

# # # # # # # #

The problem is not how we budget.
The problem is how little we are paid.

We can joke about tipid. But the reality is that we live it everyday. Survival SHOULD NOT be this absurd

Join the movement.
Fight for a living wage.
Fight for economic relief.
Fight because no worker should have to live like this.

The sleepless heroes, OFWs in our own homeland, sacrifice our health in reversed hours, where morning becomes night and night becomes morning must never be treated as mere machines for profit. We are human beings, workers, pillars of our families. Our sweat should not be exchanged for mere coins, but for wages sufficient for a decent life, for the future of ourselves, our children and family, and for the dignity of our humanity.

Tomorrow, we take to the streets.

BIEN stands with workers and transport groups in the People’s Protest and Transport Strike in Cubao, Quezon City and Plaza Bonifacio, Pasig.

Every day, workers are pushed to the edge. Wages stay the same, but prices keep rising. Pamasahe, pagkain, kuryente. Lahat pataas. How long are we expected to endure this?

We are not asking for too much. We are demanding what is just:

Immediate wage increase towards a living wage
Expansion of work from home arrangements
Increased allowances for workers
Removal of VAT on basic goods and services and excise tax on oil
Repeal of the Oil Deregulation Law

This is not just a protest. This is a collective stand for dignity, survival, and a future we deserve.

BPO workers, kasama natin ang buong uring manggagawa. Our strength is in our unity.

Kita-kits

How can BPO workers actually win the fight for higher wages?

It starts with a simple truth. No company gives meaningful wage increases out of kindness. Every real gain workers have today was fought for, organized, and won through collective action.

Individually, we are replaceable in the eyes of management. But together, we are the workforce that keeps the entire industry running.

Organization is the turning point. When workers begin talking to each other about shared problems like low pay, rising costs, unrealistic metrics, job insecurity, that is where power starts to build. When those conversations become coordinated demands, when workers move as one instead of acting alone, that is when companies are forced to listen.

1️⃣ UNION BUILDING & COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
The most powerful weapon of workers is organization. When BPO workers unite and form unions, we gain the ability to negotiate directly with companies through Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs). This is how wages, benefits, and working conditions are improved—not through appeals, but through collective power. Alone we are replaceable, but together we are indispensable.

2️⃣ WAGE PETITIONS (SUPERVENING EVENTS)
BPO workers can demand immediate wage hikes by filing petitions before Regional Wage Boards. The ongoing economic crisis—rising fuel prices, skyrocketing cost of living—are supervening events that justify urgent wage increases. The law allows adjustments when conditions drastically change. We must use it to fight for survival wages now.

3️⃣ EXECUTIVE ORDER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Workers can push for a nationwide wage increase through an Executive Order. In times of crisis, the President has the power to act swiftly to protect workers’ welfare. With enough pressure from organized workers, unions, and the public, Malacañang can be compelled to grant across-the-board wage hikes.

4️⃣ LEGISLATION: MAGNA CARTA FOR BPO WORKERS
Long-term change requires strong laws. A Magna Carta for BPO Workers can institutionalize living wages, work-from-home rights, job security, and humane working conditions. This ensures that gains are not temporary, but protected for future generations of workers.

5️⃣ SUPREME COURT MANDAMUS
When government agencies fail to act, workers can elevate the fight to the Supreme Court through a petition for mandamus. This legal remedy compels authorities to perform their duty—such as acting on wage petitions or protecting workers’ rights. It turns inaction into accountability and opens another front in the struggle for just wages.

✊ THE BOTTOM LINE
All these paths are powerful—but they will only succeed if BPO workers are organized and united. Organization and unity is the key. Without it, demands are ignored. With it, change becomes inevitable.

Crisis Fuels Our Rage: Living Wage Now

As global conflict drives oil prices up, workers in the Philippines are once again left to suffer the consequences. Higher fuel prices mean higher costs for food, transport, and basic services—while wages remain the same.

This is a crisis we did not create. But we are the ones paying for it.

BPO workers, tech workers, and all service workers demand urgent action:

Wage increase towards a living wage
Expand work-from-home arrangements
Provide adequate internet, electricity, or transportation allowances
Scrap VAT on basic goods and services and excise tax on oil
Repeal the oil deregulation law

Workers deserve more than survival. We deserve dignity.

Stand with us. Fight for a living wage.
