DUMAGUETE CITY, 2 July 2026 โ€” The National Nutrition Council (NNC), in partnership with the City Government of Dumaguete, the official host of the 2026 National Nutrition Month Kick-off Activity, officially launched the 52nd National Nutrition Month on 1 July 2026, bringing together national government agencies, local government units (LGUs), development partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, the academe, and communities in a unified call to advance nutrition, strengthen food security, and promote environmental sustainability.

Anchored on the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) overarching theme, "Sa PPAN: Sama-sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat," this year's Nutrition Month carries the sub-theme, "๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฒ๐จ๐ง ๐š๐ญ ๐Š๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ค๐š๐ฌ๐š๐ง, ๐€๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐š๐ง๐ ๐š๐ฅ๐š๐ ๐š๐š๐ง!". The campaign highlights the critical link between nutrition and environmental sustainability, emphasizing that healthy people depend on healthy ecosystems and resilient food systems.

As climate change continues to affect agriculture and food production, the NNC encourages government agencies, local government units, businesses, and communities to work together to build food systems that are both nutritious and environmentally sustainable. This includes supporting climate-resilient farming, reducing food loss and waste, promoting research and innovation, and making nutritious food more accessible and affordable for everyone.

The campaign also encourages every Filipino to adopt healthier and more sustainable dietary practices by following the Pinggang Pinoy and the 10 Kumainments, choosing locally produced foods, consuming balanced and diverse meals, minimizing food waste, and supporting home, school, and community gardens. Through these collective actions, Nutrition Month serves as a platform for advancing both nutrition and environmental stewardship.

The 2026 National Nutrition Month Kick-off Activity featured a symbolic tree-planting activity, Nutri-Eco Float Parade, opening of nutrition and partner agency booths, press conference, official launching program, technical session, and Nutrition Month Solidarity Dinner, demonstrating the shared commitment of government agencies, LGUs, development partners, civil society organizations, the private sector, the academe, and communities to advancing nutrition security and sustainable food systems.

The event was led by National Nutrition Council Officer-in-Charge Executive Director IV Atty. Rosalina U. Bascao, CPA, JD, MGM, in partnership with Dumaguete City Mayor Manuel T. Sagarbarria, together with Negros Oriental Governor Manuel L. Sagarbarria and with the support of Dr. Jose Gerard Belimac, Director III of the Disease Prevention and Control Bureau representing Health Secretary Dr. Teodoro J. Herbosa, and Dr. Razel Nikka M. Hao, Regional Director of the Department of Healthโ€“Negros Island Region. During the press conference, the officials underscored the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders to advance nutrition programs and promote healthier communities.

In her message, OIC Executive Director IV Atty. Rosalina U. Bascao emphasized the urgency of collective action in addressing today's interconnected nutrition and environmental challenges. "The challenges of climate change and food insecurity continue to affect the nutritional well-being of many Filipinos. These realities call for collective action. Protecting our environment is no longer just an ecological responsibilityโ€”it is a nutrition imperative."

As the whole country joins the 52nd National Nutrition Month celebration, the NNC encourages every Filipino to recognize that nutrition is not solely about individual food choices but also about protecting the ecosystems, agriculture, and food systems that make healthy diets possible. By working together and continuously making informed choices, we can build healthier and thriving communities, wherein we can practice environmental conservation while ensuring good nutrition for all today and for generations to come.

Yesterday, our Implementing Partners' Feeding Coordinators participated in a full-day Learning Session on Meal Management and Safe Food Handling in partnership with DOST-FNRI.

The session covered important topics such as Basic Nutrition, Meal Planning, Food Buying, Food Storage, Food Preparation, and Food Safety. These topics are essential in ensuring that the meals served in our communities are not only nutritious, but also safe, clean, and properly prepared.

Through this learning session, our coordinators strengthened their knowledge and skills in preparing balanced meals, handling food properly, and supporting the health and nutrition of children and pregnant and lactating mothers in the communities we serve.

We thank DOST-FNRI, our resource persons, and all participants for making this learning activity meaningful and productive.

Together, we continue to fight malnutrition through accurate data, correct information, and safe feeding practices.

Stay hydrated, stay healthy!

With the rising heat index across the country, the National Nutrition Council (NNC) reminds everyone to prioritize proper hydration to help prevent heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.

Extreme heat can pose serious health risks, especially among older persons, infants, pregnant women, people with chronic illnesses, and those with prolonged exposure to outdoor heat. Drinking enough water is essential for maintaining normal body functions, regulating body temperature, and supporting overall health during hot weather.

In line with the Pinggang Pinoy guidance, here are the recommended daily water intake levels:

๐‚๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ง
โ—ฆ 3โ€“5 years old: 5 or more glasses/day
9 years old: 6 or more glasses/day

18 years old)
Boys: 12 or more glasses/day
Girls: 9 or more glasses/day
59 years old)
Men: 10 or more glasses/day

(60 years and older)
Men: 8 or more glasses/day
Women: 7 or more glasses/day

These needs may increase depending on physical activity, climate exposure, and individual health conditions.

Be alert to early signs of dehydration such as excessive thirst, fatigue or weakness, dark-colored urine, dizziness, and headache. Increase fluid intake immediately when these symptoms appear.

Aside from hydration, protect yourself from extreme heat by staying in cool or shaded areas, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak hours, wearing light clothing, and ensuring proper ventilation at home. Check on vulnerable individuals such as infants, older persons, and those with medical conditions.

The NNC encourages everyone to drink water regularly, bring safe drinking water when outdoors, choose water over sugary drinks, and consume water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables.

Eksklusibong pagpapasuso
Wastong pagbibigay ng karagdagang pagkain

Behind every number is a child at risk of delayed growth and development.

In 2025, 1.62% of children under five or those aged 0โ€“59 months are stunted.
This means thousands still need our attention.

The good news? Stunting is preventable.

Start early:
Exclusive breastfeeding
Proper complementary feeding
Consistent care in the first 1,000 days

Every child deserves a strong start. Act now.
