A new chapter is unfolding for Philippine women’s handball.

What began as a vision to develop opportunities for Filipina athletes has grown into one of the country’s most exciting sporting journeys.

In 2025, the Philippine Women’s Beach Handball Team captured the silver medal at the Asian Beach Handball Championships, earning another place at the IHF Women’s Beach Handball World Championship. One year later, in Zagreb, Croatia, the Filipinas announced themselves on the world stage by defeating three-time world champion Brazil in the Main Round.

The momentum for our women athletes is now being extended beyond the sand. The return of the Philippine Women’s Indoor Handball Team at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games marked another important milestone. Built on the experience, resilience, and competitive spirit developed through beach handball, the indoor program is laying the foundation for sustained international success.

Leading this exciting phase for the Women’s program is Coach Joanna Franquelli, one of only five women in Asia to hold the International Handball Federation (IHF) A License—the sport’s highest coaching qualification. After contributing to the Philippine Men’s Indoor National Team program in 2025, she now leads the continued growth of women’s handball with a commitment to developing athletes and coaches capable of competing with the best in Asia.

With seasoned coaches Aurora Adriano, Luzviminda Pacubas, and Simeon Gabriel Bejar, along with the valuable support of the Philippine Sports Commission, our athletes are proving that Philippine handball belongs on the international stage.

With the 2027 Asian Olympic qualification and Asian Beach Handball Championships on the horizon, the journey continues. The road ahead will be challenging, but every training session, every competition, and every lesson learned brings us one step closer to our goal.

Women’s handball in the Philippines is no longer simply growing—it is rising.

And this is only the beginning…

Beach Handball in the Youth Olympic Games!

100 days to go until the Youth Olympic Games 🙌

"We welcome everyone to come to Dakar and celebrate – it will be amazing for anyone who comes. They will see many nice beaches and people in Senegal. We have the word ‘Teranga’, it is a Senegalese word which means to receive people and give good hospitality and anyone coming will experience that first-hand," says Beach Handball Sport Manager Cherif Ndiaye.

Celebrating milestones in handball and in other fields, a model of shared commitment to holistic development and excellence.

Congratulations to Simeon Gabriel Bejar (Best Presentation Award, IES 2026), Joanna Franquelli (IHF A Licence in Coaching) , and Felipe Bayani Marasigan (Mister Supranational)!

We salute your achievements as you continue to prove that success is not defined by handball medals alone, but by the ability to grow as competitors, learners, and leaders in different fields.

At the Philippine Handball Federation, we believe in developing the whole person. Because the greatest victory is building individuals who can make an impact on the court, in the classroom, in the community, and globally.
