Who is Simeon Gabriel “Sig” Bejar?

Sig is a defender for the Philippine Men’s National Beach Handball team. He started playing the sport in 2024. He has played in the Southeast Asian Beach Handball Championships (Gold medalist), the SEA Games, and the Asian Beach Handball Championships, providing leadership on and off the court.

Pursuing a PhD in Biology at the University of the Philippines Diliman, Sig is also an Associate Member of the National Research Council of the Philippines. His research interests include conservation work on Philippine tarsiers.

Sig will be the flag bearer for the Philippines in the closing ceremony of the Asian Beach Games (ABG) in Sanya, China. This will not be the end but will mark the start of preparations for Sig and the rest of the Philippines for the 2028 ABG in Cebu. 🇵🇭

To our Asian handball family and to all the Beach Sports athletes, coaches, and officials in Asia, we look forward to seeing you in 2028!

The 2026 Asian Beach Games get officially underway today in Sanya, People’s Republic of China 🇨🇳 Beach handball is set to offer spectacle to the fans, as the competition began yesterday. 15 men’s and 9 women’s teams participate 🙌
