Service and excellence are inseparable —guest speaker at LEV9lution

Melanie Moreno, one of the guest speakers during the second day of La Estrella Verde's campus journalism seminar-workshop, emphasized to participants that excellence and servant leadership go hand in hand.

"You are not just for contests; you are designed to change the world," Moreno stated.

She also noted that 2025 is the new 2022, and similar to 2022, it is our responsibility to disrupt the echo chamber.

Furthermore, Moreno provided practical steps for service-oriented journalism, which include: regularly assessing community needs, developing relationships with diverse sources across campus, and following up on stories.

Additionally, she encouraged the campus journalists to keep service at the center of their work.

"The Philippines needs journalists who understand that their primary responsibility is to the public—journalists who cover environmental challenges, community development, and social justice with accuracy, depth, and heart," she emphasized.
