From Project ALON (Achieving Literacy fOr Nonreaders) to The BOOK NOOK PASACAO
Story time☺️🥰
Before, we didn’t have any books at all. That’s why we decided to ask our Grade 12 students (Batch 2018–2019) to create original pieces or recreate children’s stories and turn them into big books with illustrations. In this way, other students could still experience the joy of reading stories despite our limited resources.
We also started bringing our personal collection of precious books—novels and other fictional works—so students would have something to choose from. However, these were still not enough to accommodate everyone.
That was when we decided to conduct a book donation drive. From then on, we began receiving books from different local and international organizations who helped us promote the love for reading.
Indeed, nothing is impossible when you truly believe in your advocacy, especially when it is for a good cause. We are forever grateful to the people and organizations who supported us along the way.
And now, through the National Book Development Board of the Philippines and the Book Nook Project, we already have Filipino-authored books and a growing collection of more than 4,000 books that our students can freely choose from and enjoy.
