Empowering local leaders to take the helm of community health, the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas and the Zuellig Family Foundation signed a partnership on April 20, 2026, to strengthen health governance across the region.

The program offers leadership training and mentoring for provincial health teams in Cebu and Bohol, helping local officials manage new responsibilities under devolution. As DOH shifts from direct control to supportive guidance, the initiative aims to support local governments as they work toward Universal Health Care.

𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 | “Prevention is not just a health issue—it is a shared societal investment.”

This was the powerful reminder from Dr. Anthony Faraon, Chief of Party of The Challenge Initiative - The Philippines at the Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF), during his keynote on “Beyond Universal Coverage: Sustainable Financing for Preventive Care” at the Asian Medical Students' Association - Service-Oriented Medical Advocates (AMSA-SOMA) 6th Public Health Forum.

Held last April 11, 2026 at the Artists Hall, Benedicto College, Mandaue Campus, the forum gathered medical students, healthcare professionals, and advocates to explore collaborative solutions to pressing public health challenges.

Alongside the keynote, ZFF also welcomed participants at its booth, where we introduced our broader programs in public health leadership, governance training, and advocacy.

By highlighting prevention and engaging with future medical leaders, ZFF reaffirmed its commitment to building resilient communities and nurturing service‑oriented advocates for equitable and sustainable healthcare.

𝗔𝗬𝗦𝗥𝗛 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 | Fifteen parent-teen pairs in Catbalogan, Samar graduated from a program that opened difficult conversations about adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) and rebuilt trust at home.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 | The Zuellig Family Foundation (ZFF) strengthened its academic partnerships in Central Visayas by meeting with two higher education institutions to advance its Health Leadership and Governance Program (HLGP).

The Foundation formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of the Philippines Cebu, marking the university’s official entry as a new academic partner, while also meeting with Cebu Normal University, whose president expressed full support for moving forward with joint implementation.

These engagements underscore the vital role of academic institutions in shaping future health leaders and sustaining health governance improvements, reinforcing ZFF’s commitment to building responsive, equitable, and enduring health systems nationwide.

Engaging families directly in the fight against childhood stunting, the Zuellig Family Foundation and the Department of Health-Eastern Visayas are scaling a family-centered program called the Pook Malusog Family Stunting Reduction Program (FaStR).

Targeting the first 1,000 days (F1KD) of a child’s life, the initiative empowers families through nutrition education and monitoring by community health volunteers.

Local leaders and youth peer educators stepped up, embedding adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH) into barangay budgets, leading school-based conversations, and transforming young people into active partners. The result? A community-led model where governance listens, youth lead, and lasting change takes root.

Stepping out of the executive role and into a resident’s home, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong completed a 'Deep Dive', a guided community immersion, under the Bayang Malusog Leadership and Governance Program (BMLGP).

The exercise required him to suspend preconceived judgments, engage directly with community members, and observe health inequities from a grassroots perspective. The Deep Dive aims to strengthen leadership connections with health stakeholders and drive more responsive decision-making for Baguio’s health system.
