Coalition for Filipino Commuters PasaHero Statement on the government actions to alleviate commuter woes caused by the energy crisis.

The Coalition of Filipino Commuters (PasaHero) expresses its deep appreciation to the President and his administration for their unwavering concern for the plight of the ordinary commuters.

By suspending the initially announced fare hike, the President has shown his compassion to the suffering of the ordinary commuters who outnumber the transport sector in population by a ratio of at least 16 passengers to 1 driver (and this only reflects the jeepney users.)

While we understand the concerns and hard ships of the transport sector, never has a sitting President ever taken into consideration the suffering of the ordinary PasaHero.

For every rise in oil prices or energy sources, the first victim are always the commuters, the first reactions is to raise fare prices.

And while the drivers benefit, they do not realize that the fare hike becomes irrelevant because it directly affects their fanilies who then have to pay for this increase anyway.

The coalition prays that President and his administration continue to extend this support to us lowly commuters as we have suffered long enough being the immediate whipping boys of every energy crisis.

The CFC is willing and offering to sit down with the transportation sector to look for better ways to address this current and recurring problem.

A CALL TO ACTION FOR OUR TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITIES

The Coalition of Filipino Commuters (CFC-PasaHero) calls on the Motorcycle Taxi Technical Working Group (TWG) to take immediate, visible action against illegal motorcycle passenger operations conducted by the Maxim platform in Cebu. Our team’s informants have personally investigated and observed these activities being disguised under its “bike delivery” service. This is a clear violation of the TWG’s guidelines, which authorize only Angkas, JoyRide, and Move It to operate motorcycle taxi services in Cebu.

Over recent weeks, CFC’s field monitoring, commuter tip line, and test inquiries surfaced indications that riders linked to Maxim’s delivery service are accepting or completing passenger trips. These practices put commuters at risk and undermine the integrity of the motorcycle taxi pilot. The accredited operators have undergone rigorous inspection, are subject to strict reporting mechanisms, and must abide by set safety and service standards. Illegal operations unfairly and alarmingly evade these safeguards that protect riders and passengers alike.

CFC also notes separate broadcast reports in Cebu of a r**e complaint involving a “Maxim rider.” While that matter remains under investigation and all parties are entitled to due process, our concern is broader and systemic. Non-accredited platforms that carry passengers compromise public safety and erode accountability.

CFC has formally lodged a letter of complaint with the Motorcycle Taxi TWG regarding this matter. The organization stands ready to provide regulators with incident leads, commuter testimonies, and policy research, and to assist victims in accessing support services. We urge decisive enforcement to protect commuters and uphold the TWG’s safety framework.
