Tzu Chi Leyte's 4th Humanity Class: Learning the Beauty of Etiquette

On November 15, 2025, Tzu Chi Palo, Leyte, hosted another day of mission towards values formation with its 4th Humanity Class focused on Tzu Chi Etiquette.

Scholars, volunteers, and villagers greeted the day with genuine gratitude and happiness, with the scholars starting the morning by getting to "groove" before the event began.

Achi Roxanne delivered warm remarks, appreciating the scholars' good grades and gently reminding them of their responsibilities.

The atmosphere was set by emcees Mark Kent and Rochelle, who led a "Kamustahan" session where everyone shared what they were grateful for that week.

Achi Hadassa shared thoughtful words on the Jing Si Aphorism of the day: "Etiquette is the dignity of the inner mind; it inspires respect from others," beautifully demonstrating this teaching through her obedience and dedication as a scholar.

Following this, Auntie Alice, a volunteer, shared a valuable message through the Master Tells Story of Sakra and the Asura.

The meticulous discussion of Tzu Chi Etiquette was then led by Leyte volunteers, headed by Tzu Chi Commissioner Randy Militante, who carefully demonstrated the heart of Tzu Chi etiquette in daily life. They emphasized that Tzu Chi Etiquette—where the "beauty of the group comes from the refinement of its individuals" is about practicing GRATITUDE, RESPECT, and LOVE towards all PEOPLE, PLACE, and MATTER.

Scholars gained wisdom from the detailed instruction on proper etiquette for Dressing, Sitting, Eating, Walking, and basic Buddhist conduct.

Tzu Chi Volunteers Relief Effort Update: Helping Cebu Recover from Typhoon Kalmaegi (Tino)

The devastating impact of Typhoon Kalmaegi (locally known as Tino) has brought significant destruction to numerous areas across Cebu, leaving many families without homes.

In a powerful display of national unity, a coordinated relief effort is underway. Volunteers from Leyte have joined forces with dedicated teams from Manila and various provinces throughout the Philippines to bolster the efforts of local Cebu volunteers.

Volunteers initial work involves meticulously re-verifying the master list of completely destroyed homes, a vital step for proper resource allocation. Following this, the teams are actively distributing necessary vouchers (stubs) in various locations. This effort culminates in the crucial distribution of essential relief goods across six severely affected towns, marking a comprehensive and compassionate response to the crisis.

"To willingly undergo hardship for the sake of helping others is compassion."

Tzu Chi Leyte is back on a mission to help its scholars through education.

Tzu Chi volunteers and staff recently had a formal visit to Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU). They met with University President, Dr. Dennis C. de Paz, and the very supportive EVSU faculty, Dr. Eliditha Easter H. Gervacio (Head, Student Affairs Office) Professor Milbren G. Bato (Scholarship Officer) Dr. Sonia T. Enrile (Director, Student Affairs and Services Office)

This courtesy meeting was the first step to forming an official agreement (MOA) with EVSU. This agreement will soon help students to get the support they need to study and achieve their dreams.

Tzu Chi Leyte’s 3rd Humanity Class: Mission of Charity

The day began with an energetic morning exercise for the scholars, enjoying the warm sun and a boost of Vitamin D.

Achi Roxanne opened the program by recognizing the scholars’ hard work during the first-ever Tzu Chi Charity Run in Leyte. She also thanked the Tzu Chi volunteers and village coordinators for their dedication and support.

Next, the scholars who showed strong passion and selfless service were recognized. These top scholars completed 100, 94, 78, 90, and 110 hours of community service. Tzu Chi Volunteers awarded them with a special gift of gratitude.

Tzu Chi Scholar Earl Daga then shared a Jing Si Aphorism: “Cherish every grain with gratitude, for it embodies the kindness of countless hands.” He explained its meaning and reminded everyone to be thankful for even the smallest things.

Volunteers from Tzu Chi Palo shared heartfelt stories about their experiences and what the Mission of Charity truly means in daily life.

After the sharing, the scholars took part in the Spider Web game, which helped them understand teamwork, love, and compassion in giving.

Before ending the event, the scholars practiced basic earthquake drill reminders to stay prepared and safe.

The session opened hearts towards love, compassion, and giving.

“Tzu Chi volunteers address the needy households they assist as ‘Households of Gratitude’. This is not about wanting the care recipients to thank Tzu Chi for its help, but rather the volunteers are grateful to the needy for allowing them to witness poverty and illness in life. It helps to remind them that impermanence is a reality in life, and thus, they learn to be content and count their blessings. In the process of giving, it is equally important to thank the care recipient, only then are we truly sincere in caring for the suffering.”
