EmpowerHER: Advocating for Womenโ€™s Rights, Wellness, and Support

The 3rd Year Political Science students, in partnership with the Social Concerns Center headed by Ms. Jeanelyn M. Potestas, successfully conducted a community engagement activity on March 28, 2026, at Brgy. Namut, Sitio Tongo, Tudela, Misamis Occidental. The event was attended by 35 participants from the Manguengat Subanen women.

This initiative aimed to ensure that Subanen women are not left behind by empowering them through awareness and education. A short but meaningful session was facilitated by Ms. Anilou Dilao together with selected Political Science students, focusing on womenโ€™s rights and the vital roles they play in the community.

The program concluded with an inspiring talk by Ms. Silvestra de Luna entitled โ€œBreaking Barriers: Women in Leadership and Community Advocacy,โ€ encouraging participants to take active roles in leadership and community development.

On February 27, 2026, from 2:00โ€“4:00 PM, La Salle University - Ozamiz proudly joined the nationwide conversation commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.

This meaningful gathering formed part of the weeklong national commemoration organized by the Lasallian Justice and Peace Commission of De La Salle Philippines, in collaboration with the Social Action Offices of the 16 La Salle schools across the country.

We were honored by the presence of Mr. ๐™‚๐™ก๐™–๐™™๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™š ๐˜พ๐™ช๐™–๐™ง๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ง๐™ค๐™จ, National Coordinator of the DLSP Lasallian Justice and Peace Office, who joined us live at LSUโ€“Ozamiz.

The program formally began with the Opening Remarks delivered by Sir ๐‘๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž, setting the tone for a reflective and critical dialogue on the state of Philippine democracy.

Our distinguished speaker, ๐˜ฟ๐™ง. ๐™๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ก๐™™ ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ข๐™š๐™จ, graced the webinar with his expertise and insight. A respected pollster and President of Pulse Asia Research, Inc., he regularly monitors public opinion in the country. He is also a full professor at the Political Science and Development Studies Department of De La Salle University and earned his PhD from the Australian National University. A long-time friend and a true and through Lasallian, Dr. Holmes shared critical reflections on democracyโ€”four decades after EDSA.

The session proceeded with an Open Forum, allowing participants to raise questions and engage in meaningful dialogue. This was followed by school-level workshops, where participants were given five minutes to reflect and respond to guide questions related to the theme.

The webinar concluded with inspiring Closing Remarks from Ms. ๐Œ๐ฌ. ๐Œ๐ข๐ง๐ฆ๐ข๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ฌ
of University of St. La Salle.

In solidarity and continued commitment to democratic participation, the LSU Political Science Assembly of Students organized a symbolic snake rally within the campus, culminating in front of the LSU faรงadeโ€”an expression of active citizenship and remembrance.

Millions of our fellow Filipinos joined as one to peacefully protest against the injustice and cruelty faced during the reign of dictatorship under former President Ferdinand E. Marcos. This united action allowed for renewed hope and revolutionary leadership under Corazon Aquino, signifying a pivotal moment in the nation's history.

This commemoration serves as a reminder that the people's voice is the cornerstone of a just and progressive society, as well as ensuring that the legacy of People Power continues to inspire generations to protect and strengthen our democracy.
