*Penalties for Littering:*
- Imprisonment of 5 days to 1 year
- Fine ranging from ₱100 to ₱2,000
- Both imprisonment and fine, at the discretion of
the court
*Responsibility*: All citizens, residents, and entities must maintain clean surroundings, including yards, gardens, and public areas, and properly dispose of waste in designated receptacles.
*Public Places*: Littering is prohibited in public places such as roads, canals, esteros, or parks.
*Idle Lot Owners*: Owners of idle lots are required to maintain cleanliness to prevent pest breeding, and failure to comply may result in government action, including repurposing the land for food production.¹ ²
Additionally, Republic Act 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act) also outlines prohibited acts, including³:
*Littering and dumping waste in public places and water*
*Open burning of solid waste*
*Collection and transport of non-segregated or unsorted waste*
*Squatting in open dumpsites and landfills*
*Open dumping and burying of biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials in flood-prone areas*
These laws emphasize personal and corporate accountability in maintaining a clean environment.
