Water is life—but for many women and girls, it is also a daily struggle.
Without safe water, sanitation, and hygiene close to home, women and girls bear a heavier burden than men and boys. They walk long distances to collect water, manage household needs, and care for loved ones who fall ill due to unsafe water. In the process, they lose time, health, safety, and opportunities—while their voices are often left out of decision-making.
This is why the water crisis is not just a global issue—it is a women’s crisis.
As part of the humanitarian mission of the Philippine Red Cross, we continue to promote safe water, proper sanitation, and good hygiene practices in our communities.
In line with this, activities such as poster and slogan-making contests were conducted to raise awareness and inspire action among the youth. Through creativity and expression, participants highlighted the importance of water, gender equality, and hygiene
Handwashing activities were also carried out to reinforce proper hygiene practices—reminding everyone that clean hands save lives and prevent the spread of diseases.
This World Water Day, we stand in solidarity with women and girls everywhere. We recognize their strength, their role, and their right to be heard.
We believe that solutions must go beyond access—they must include empowerment. Women and girls should not only be water users, but also leaders, decision-makers, engineers, and changemakers.
Under the theme “Where water flows, equality grows,” we are reminded that when women are empowered, communities thrive and the future becomes more resilient.
Together, let us take action to ensure safe water, proper hygiene, and equality for all.
