The problem is not that there are trials; they are inevitable. The problem sometimes is that we are not rooted enough to survive trials.
I know that sometimes, knowing who Jesus is won’t eliminate the pain. But as real as pain may be, so is Jesus and His promise of hope.
Yes, we can go through painful seasons, but we are not without hope. We should still be able to see beyond our pain, because there is a God who is taking care of us. Our hope will never disappoint.
I am currently studying Psalms for my devotions, and one thing I keep noticing about David was that no matter how distressing the situation may be– he may be running away from his son who was trying to kill him, he may be facing life and death situation because of his enemies, or he may be grieving over his own sinfulness– he still praised God and remember who He is. David was so sure about God that there was no situation that prevented him from putting his trust in God.
But you, Lord, are a shield around me,
my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the Lord,
and he answers me from his holy mountain.
I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
assail me on every side. (Psalm 3:3-6)
I pray that we will be as rooted and as confident as David and even more now that we have a complete revelation of God’s salvation through Jesus Christ.
