Small Acts, Big Impact: Tzu Chi Youth Unite for Community Recycling Initiative
On March 15, 2026, an important and dynamic recycling activity was successfully carried out at the Tzu Chi Village and Recycling Center, with the participation of 61 dedicated members of Tzu Chi Youth (TCY). The event, organized by the Tzu Chi Collegiate Youth Association (TCCYA), with OIC heads James Anthony Aรฑasco and Jaycel Suco leading the initiative, showed the dedication of the youth to the care of the environment and to service.
The day began with an actual collection of recyclable materials in the village, where the members actively participated in collecting plastic bottles, old clothes, and other recyclable materials. In spite of the arduous nature of the event, the energy of the young members remained high, fueled by their collective desire to make a difference in the community by keeping the surroundings clean and green. In the afternoon, all the collected items were transported to the recycling center, where the collected items were managed and segregated according to proper waste management practices.
Reflecting the spirit of the activity, a Jing Si Aphorism reminds everyone: โDo not underestimate the power of small acts of kindness. Every small effort, when accumulated, can create great change.โ This message resonated deeply among the participants as they carried out even the simplest tasks with sincerity and purpose.
Beyond the physical work, the activity also became a space for learning and personal reflection. Many participants shared that while the work was tiring, it was also fulfilling and enjoyable, especially as they were surrounded by friends and fellow volunteers.
One of the scholars, Princess Angel P. Cabillo, expressed her experience, saying, โIt was tiring, but I didn't really feel the exhaustion because I love what Iโm doing and my friends were there too. I also really want to help our community.โ
She also emphasized the importance of consistency in such efforts, adding, โItโs important to recycle all the time because it truly helps our environment and community.โ
Meanwhile, another scholar, Germain Villegas highlighted the impact of the activity on his perspective, sharing, โCollecting recyclables like plastic bottles and cans made me realize how important proper waste management is.โ He further added, โI learned that every small action counts, like segregating trash and using reusable bottles. The experience was even more special because I met new people and built friendships while doing something meaningful.โ
Another scholar, Rhealyn Sumayang, described the activity as both productive and inspiring. โAt first, it was a bit tiring, but as the activity went on, I enjoyed working with my co-scholars and seeing the results of our efforts,โ she said. Reflecting on her learning, she added, โThis experience taught me the importance of proper waste segregation and how small actions can have a big impact. It also reminded me to practice reducing, reusing, and recycling in my daily life.โ
The recycling activity stands as a testament to the power of youth-driven initiatives in creating positive change. Through unity, dedication, and compassion, the Tzu Chi Youth continue to make meaningful contributions toward building a more sustainable and caring community.
