A powerful magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck offshore Davao Oriental at 9:43 a.m. today, October 10, 2025, prompting PHIVOLCS to issue a โ€œdestructive tsunami warningโ€ with life-threatening wave heights expected in several coastal provinces.

The tremor was felt at magnitude 3.2 in Ormoc City, while stronger shaking was reported in areas closer to the epicenter. Residents in Eastern Samar, Dinagat Islands, Davao Oriental, Southern Leyte, Surigao del Norte, Leyte, and Surigao del Sur are urged to evacuate immediately to higher ground.

In response to the earthquake and tsunami alert, schools have announced the immediate suspension of classes to ensure the safety of students and staff.
