The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) respects the right of elected officials to express their views on national matters. However, recent remarks made by Congressman Francisco “Kiko” Austria Barzaga Jr. are unfair to the dedicated men and women of the PCG.

According to PCG Spokesperson, Captain Noemie Cayabyab PCG, the PCG is a professional, disciplined, and accountable government agency that operates with full transparency and under civilian oversight. The Command welcomes public scrutiny, and any credible allegations of misconduct will be investigated in accordance with due process.

“The Command remains open to dialogue with Congressman Barzaga and all stakeholders in Congress to clarify misconceptions and strengthen cooperation toward maritime security and safety,” Captain Cayabyab said.

The PCG Spokesperson also emphasized that the PCG and the PCG Auxiliary (PCGA) are two distinct entities, with the latter composed of civilian volunteers who assist in community-based and humanitarian missions.

“PCGA members are not active-duty PCG officers, and their honorary ranks do not confer authority or compensation,” she clarified.

“The PCG will continue to fulfill its mandates with integrity, courage, and selfless commitment to the Filipino people by protecting lives and upholding the rule of law at sea,” Captain Cayabyab furthered.

UNIFIED VOLUNTEERS BLOOD DONATION '25

The PCGA Squadron 1103rd headed by CDR THOMAS FREDIRICK T BINFIELD PCGA, Squadron Director, will be organizing a Unified Blood Donation activity later this November 2025.

We are inviting volunteer groups, civic organizations, schools, stakeholders and fraternities to join us in this noble cause and extend a helping hand to those in need of blood.

The said activity aims to equipped the participants the necessary measurements in times of turbulence in relation to saving lives.

CDR Thomas Fredirick T Binfield PCGA, Squadron Director, primary goal is to empowered its squadron officers and men to be well versed in precautionary measures in relation to safety and emergency response in order to be readily deployed in times of series of unfortunate events such as calamities and natural disasters within its jurisdiction.

The said activity aimed to enhance communication skills and promoting proper radio usage among our community partners stakeholders, and other organizations.

The Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas together with the PCGA Squadrons of Ormoc, 1102nd, 1103rd and 1105th, join hand in hand in a collaborative effort in cleaning the Ormoc Veterans Bay shoreline which was affected by the Typhoon Opong last September 2025.

The PCG and PCGA stand firm in its commitment in the preservation and protection of the coastal areas of Ormoc City.
