BPSU LGBTQIA+ ORGANIZATIONS' STATEMENT ON SOGIESC-BASED DISCRIMINATION, HARRASSMENT, AND AGGRESSION

SOGIESC-based discrimination and harrassment has been prevalent to our country for far too long, deeply ingrained in societal norms and institutions. But slowly we are trying hard to lessen and educate each and everyone about the importance and strict abiding of the laws againts it. We are striving to raise awareness and foster understanding of the importance of equality, and respect.

However, as advocates of the community who continuously fight for safe spaces, inclusivity and equality. We have seen and received information that is bothersome to so many, the reports of sexual harrassment of our fellow Peninsulares and part of the Q***r community. We, from the POSE: House of Iris, Alimbukad - Main Campus and Serpentine - Orani Campus, strongly condemn any forms of harrasments and discrimination in public spaces, within the university, the province, and the community.

Here in Bataan, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has approved the Ordinance No. 16 Series of 2021 "An Ordinance Prohibiting Discrimination on the Basis of Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity or Expression (SOGIE)" Citing the Section 4 (i) and (l) of the Ordinance states that any forms of harrasments, bully, demean, and offend, the person based on their SOGIE is prohibited and punishable through penalties by the power of this ordinance.

We firmly believe that any form of harassment has a major impact on the mental well-being, overall wellness, and dignity of its victims, often leading to long-term emotional distress, anxiety, and fear. We acknowledge and recognize these experiences of our fellow Peninsulares and Bataeños as their struggles are a reflection of the broader issue of discrimination and inequality in our society.

As organizations dedicated to advocate for safe space, inclusivity and equality, we remain steadfast in our advocacy for a more just and equal society. Our organizations calls for the safety and vigilance of our fellow Peninsulares and Bataeños, urging both the community and authorities to take proactive measures in ensuring that no one suffers in silence. It is our collective responsibility to foster an environment where everyone feels secure, respected, and free from any form of prejudice or harm.

To everyone, we are all here for you, we will stand and fight with you. No one deserves to experience any forms of harrasments and discrimination in any place. Everyone regardless of their SOGIESC deserves to live, work, and move freely without fear of harassment, exclusion, or violence.

Discrimination has no place in Bataan. It is time for Bataan to take a stand against discrimination and become a model for progress and inclusivity. No one should be denied their rights, dignity, or safety simply because of their gender or identity. Together, we must work towards a community, society and a future where everyone can live freely and without fear of discrimination and prejudice.

Starting nitong Wednesday, we’re celebrating 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒔𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑾𝒆𝒆𝒌—a time to uplift, support, and spread awareness for our trans fam and the unique challenges they face. Trans people deserve to be seen, respected, and valued for who they truly are. It’s not just about “tolerance” (𝓸𝓸, 𝓼𝓲𝓼, 𝔀𝓮’𝓻𝓮 𝔀𝓪𝔂 𝓫𝓮𝔂𝓸𝓷𝓭 𝓽𝓱𝓪𝓽!) but about real acceptance and TRANS POWER! Let’s break the stereotypes, educate ourselves, and make sure our trans siblings feel safe, celebrated, and empowered.

Allies, this week is your moment to step up! Advocate, educate, and listen. Start with the basics—using the right names and pronouns (𝔂𝓮𝓼, 𝓹𝓻𝓸𝓷𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓼 𝓶𝓪𝓽𝓽𝓮𝓻, 𝓶𝓪𝓱𝓪𝓵!). Every little step counts in creating safer and more inclusive spaces for all.

Mga bibi, it’s that time of the year—𝙇𝙂𝘽𝙏 𝙃𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙈𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙝, 𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙩𝙤 𝙣𝙖 𝙩𝙖𝙮𝙤 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚! This month is all about celebrating the beauty of our diversity and the strength of our community. From the past to the present, bawat laban, bawat tagumpay—𝘭𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘢𝘯 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘦 𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘯𝘢 𝘱𝘶𝘯𝘰 𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘨𝘮𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘰𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘯. 🏳️‍🌈

Let’s honor the brave souls who came before us, starting with 𝙅𝙚𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙧 𝙇𝙖𝙪𝙙𝙚, 𝙤 𝙂𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙖 from Olongapo, Zambales. Isang kababayan natin na naging simbolo ng laban para sa hustisya at proteksyon ng LGBTQIA+ community sa Pilipinas. Sa kabila ng matinding hamon at pang-aabuso, ipinakita niya ang tapang ng isang tunay na ally ng komunidad. 𝑱𝒆𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒇𝒆𝒓’𝒔 𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒄𝒚 𝒓𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒔 𝒖𝒔 na may laban pa tayong dapat ipanalo para sa hustisya at dignidad ng bawat isa.

And who could forget 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙨𝙝𝙖 𝙋. 𝙅𝙤𝙝𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙣? Kilala bilang isang drag queen at activist mula sa Stonewall era in New York City, USA, si Marsha ang nagbigay-buhay sa Stonewall Uprising na nag-spark ng modern LGBTQIA+ rights movement. Sa gitna ng matinding diskriminasyon, nagtagumpay siya sa pagiging matatag, puno ng pag-asa, at walang takot na ipaglaban ang karapatan ng q***r community. 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒂 𝒑𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒚 para sa mga LGBTQIA+ rights na tinatamasa natin ngayon, and for that, we owe her respect and gratitude.

𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙥𝙪𝙡𝙤 𝙏𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙙𝙖𝙙 𝙇𝙪𝙣𝙖, 𝙤 𝙋𝙪𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜, ay isang LGBTQIA+ icon mula sa Pilipinas na ipinanganak noong 1903 sa Pampanga at lumaki sa 𝐎𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐢, 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐚𝐧. Matapos ang pagkamatay ng kanyang ama, lumipat ang kanyang pamilya sa Paco, Manila, kung saan natagpuan ni Pulong ang Victoria Studios. Dito siya nagsimulang magpahayag ng kanyang tunay na sarili sa pamamagitan ng mga portrait na nagpapakita sa kanya bilang isang babae, nakasuot ng mga baro’t saya at Japanese geisha robes. Bago pa man sumikat ang mga LGBTQIA+ icons sa media, 𝒔𝒊 𝑷𝒖𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒏𝒂𝒈𝒃𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒚 𝒏𝒈 𝒍𝒊𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒈 𝒔𝒂 𝒈𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 sa isang konserbatibong panahon. Ang kanyang imahe ay naging iconic, na inilagay sa pabalat ng “Performing the Self: Occasional Prose” ni J. Neil Garcia, bilang patunay ng kanyang kontribusyon sa q***r identity at kasaysayan sa Pilipinas.

Walang itinatago, walang itinatanggi—𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 '𝘵𝘰, 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘨 𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘢𝘯! Whether you’re bi, pan, trans, non-binary, ace, or somewhere on the spectrum, this is your moment to be loud, proud, and unapologetic! Walang halong filter, tunay at totoo!

Kaya mga allies, let's join the movement! 𝑯𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊 𝒊𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒅, 𝒌𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒊 𝒍𝒆𝒈𝒂𝒄𝒚—ang ating karapatan at dignidad ay dapat respetuhin 365 days a year, hindi lang ngayong October. Let’s keep the energy high, spread love, and make sure that future generations live in a world na fully inclusive at shining brighter than ever! Hello, mga tao! It’s 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘅 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆! 💛💜 Ngayong October 26, let’s dive into what it means to be intersex and clear up the misconceptions once and for all. So, ano nga ba ang intersex?

𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒙 people are born with physical traits—like chromosomes, hormones, or reproductive organs—that don’t fit typical definitions of male or female bodies. Sounds complex? Well, that’s because nature is diverse! Intersex traits affect up to 1.7% of people, which is actually as common as having red hair. Pero, kahit na gano’n, 𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪 𝘪𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘴 𝘯𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘨-𝘶𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘯. 🙅‍♀️🙅

Let’s get real about the myths. Madalas nilang sabihin na ‘confused’ ang mga intersex people or na kailangan nilang “pumili” ng gender. Wrong! Being intersex doesn’t mean being transgender, non-binary, or even "in-between" male and female. Intersex 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒃𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚, not necessarily about gender identity. Every intersex person is unique, and they can identify however they feel most authentic. Some identify as women, others as men, some as non-binary—there’s no one-size-fits-all.

Ang pagiging intersex ay 𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞 𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙠𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙮𝙤𝙣 na kailangang “ayusin” or “baguhin.” Kaya maraming intersex advocates ang naninindigan laban sa medical procedures done without consent, like surgeries on intersex infants. 𝘗𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘴 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴, period! ✊🏼💖

So this Intersex Awareness Day, let’s uplift intersex voices, educate ourselves and others, and break down the binary stereotypes! Let’s show the world that 𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙚𝙭 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙖𝙣 𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 and that everyone deserves respect and agency over their own body.
