In celebration of the International Day of Forests, Grades 10 and 11 students of Holy Rosary Parochial Institute of Orani, Inc. (HRPIOI) put their environmental awareness into action as the Supreme Student Government (SSG) led this yearโs E-CONNECT initiative with the seminar entitled, GreenMinded: Protecting Forests, Securing the Future,โ last March 10 at Bulwagan ni Maria, Orani, Bataan.
SSG President Xyjha Chill Zwain F. Asay opened the program with a welcome address, emphasizing the urgency of environmental responsibility.
โToday, let us not only listen but also reflect on what we can do as individuals and as a community. Let this seminar inspire us to protect what remains and restore what has been lost. Because the future of our forests is not decided tomorrow; it is decided by the choices we make today,โ Asay said.
Resource speaker Ian Kenneth Alabado, a member of the CSI:Earthโs Education and Research Committee, highlighted pressing environmental issues in the Philippines, including deforestation and illegal logging, and emphasized their long-term effects on biodiversity, climate stability, and community livelihoods.
Meanwhile, Sirdoland David, Co-Head of CSI:Earthโs Logistics Committee, urged students to take active roles in protecting forests and promoting sustainable practices.
โProtecting forests is not only the responsibility of governments or organizations. Nagsisimula rin ito sa atin, lalo na sa inyong mga kabataan, na handang gumawa ng simpleng mga bagay na may epekto para sa kalikasan at pagpapanatili nito,โ David said.
The symposium ended with a dialogue session and the awarding of certificates to the guest speakers, marking the success of another meaningful edition of E-CONNECT. Through initiatives like this, HRPIOIโs SSG continues to cultivate proactive, socially responsible students ready to address environmental and societal challenges.
