VA is enforcing regulations regarding claims from survivors of deceased Veterans.
Persons who are not listed by name on the VA Office of General Counsel Accreditation List, (https://www.va.gov/ogc/apps/accreditation/index.asp) cannot assist, counsel or help prepare VA Claims. This includes survivors’ claims. The list contains Attorney’s, agents or Veterans Service Organizations by name. It is considered a violation of law for providing such assistance and comes with heavy fines and penalties for doing so. For those who wish to file a claim, you should google the OGC Accreditation list to find persons who can legally assist you. Additionally, the RAO cannot assist in the ordering of a U S ceremonial flag for survivors of deceased Veterans, other than provide the form for requesting a flag. Generally speaking when there is a known next of kin, they must submit the flag request to the VA for issuance.
Our services to RAO MEMBERS will continue in so much as providing the required forms for these claims and requests, and referring members to accredited representatives for assistance in completing them. Qualified survivors can become members and will be assisted. This is an important part of the program, as those who cannot open a bank acct. Cannot enroll in the Direct Deposit Program, but will be able to receive their compensation thru the RAO mailroom.
