Buklod ng Kababaihan was established in 1987 as a drop-in center for women in prostitution outside of the U.S. It was funded through the joint effort of the core group of women from the clubs, Gabriela Commission on Violence Against Women, Mennonite Central Committee, and the Division

of Family Ministries of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines. Navy in November 1992 and the resulting decline of the entertainment industry, Buklod focuses on empowering women and children who were victims of prostitution and trafficking. Buklod believes that prostitution is a violation of women’s rights, and therefore a Human Rights violation.
