Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation

Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation is well-known for its environmental stewardship.

The Lighthouse Legacy Foundation is known for its active support in the environment, advocacy for responsible tourism, and promotion of sustainable livelihood. It was established in 2014 in the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan by the founders of the Lighthouse Marina Resort located at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Philippines. The Lighthouse Marina Resort, since its inception in 2007, has made a name fo

r itself as a company with a social purpose. Their passion to serve and be better goes beyond typical hotel operations. The company was a community champion and an environmental advocate, motivated by a genuine sense of moral leadership โ€” a commitment to give something back and be a catalyst for change that will create a better future for all. Vision: A movement for change that pays good deeds forward among humankind for a great future. Mission: Improve the lives of people in the community through integrated and sustainable programs to enhance tourism, livelihood, health, and the environment.

โ€จAs movements were being restricted by respective government safety protocols to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus, we have seen the positive effects to our environment brought about by the decrease in carbon emissions from running cars and factories. On the other hand, we have also seen negative effects such as the increase in medical waste which includes but not limited to face masks and gloves. Many businesses were wiped out and those who remained were forced to make drastic changes to their operations. The pandemic has changed the way people live and work and caused huge global socio-economic disruption. It is in these circumstances, that the foundation intends to explore strategies fit for the current situation that may serve as future guidelines for sustainability.

Did you know that Ateneo Institute of Sustainability celebrated its 10th year in 2024? It was great to meet new face and reconnect with friends who are all working to balance the environment and economy better. Each visitor to this event had a tree planted in their name care of legacy foundation and the Aetas of Yangil.

Based on the conversations in the room, its still early days for sustainability programs in the Philippines as we need to grow more advocates and increase the number of real life examples in the country. The good news is that its fast growing and there is a lot of young energy in the room! One important realization we had is that we need sustainability minded folks in every department - not just the one assigned to make the reports.

It's only when we are really able to get everyone to understand how our resource consumption affects our weather that we will see significant and fast change.

If you want to learn about sustainability and restoration please message us!

Our recent Level Up Clean Ip helped us understand and learn about more holistic solutions for the waste ecosystem! ๐Ÿšฎ

We started with a beach clean up then took up a notch by segregating waste and cleaning it!

We gathered trash from the coast - plastic, glass, styrofoam, metal, and more. This critical step helped us identify which types of waste are most prevalent, this time we focused our efforts on plastic waste, particularly PET bottles.

Volunteers also learned about the importance of cleaning plastics before recycling. Emptying liquids, washing bottles, and preparing the plastics for recycling giving them a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes after the clean-up.

We collected a total of 227.7kgs on Sept 29 in Las Pinas Paranaque Wetland Park (thank you and the local team for creating this platform)

Weโ€™re glad that our volunteers were able to see and experience firsthand what goes into the recycling process, hopefully giving them a better understanding and a drive to reduce their own use of single-use plastics and properly dispose of and segregate their waste.

We had a lot of collaborators (all tagged in this post) and volunteers who helped make this happen - and we are grateful for the chance to pilot this program and learn how to encourage more behavioral changes that reduce and recover waste.

Thank you to Philippine Allianance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability (PARMS) for leading this and to Coca-Cola for supporting the initiative.

I never thought I would become a teacher again, but I'm glad I did. Truly, solving our waste management problem begins with education. Thank you to Don Bosco School of Theology for this opportunity.

Together, we're building a community of change-makers, ready to take on the challenges and protect our precious marine ecosystems for future generations.

๐Ÿšจ Breaking News in the World of Recycling! ๐Ÿšจ

Hey everyone! Have you caught the latest wave in the recycling universe? โ™ป๏ธ

Get ready, because it's a game-changer, especially for the recycling industry. Thanks to the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Program, we're witnessing a recycling renaissance!

Here's the scoop: The EPR Program is demanding major businesses to step up and deal with the plastic waste from their products โ€“ yes, the very stuff that ends up in our hands and, sadly, often in the environment. They've got to think out of the box now to reduce their plastic impact. ๐Ÿค”โ™ป๏ธ

But hereโ€™s the interesting part: Not every company can manage its own recycling operations. Enter Waste Diversion/Recovery Credits (WDC). These are like golden tickets for businesses, each representing a chunk of plastic waste saved from polluting our planet.

And guess what? This opens a lucrative door for the recycling industry! ๐Ÿ’ฐ Companies are now on the lookout to purchase these credits, bringing vital investment into the recycling sector.

But wait, there's a catch โ€“ it's not just about collecting and selling. The EPR law requires strict auditing of all recovery programs to ensure theyโ€™re legit and effective. This means recycling has to be top-notch and transparent.

Good news, though! This shift is nudging communities, organizations, and local governments to enhance their waste management game and align with the EPR Program's standards. And the best part? By selling those WDCs, these programs can now be profitable. ๐Ÿ’ธ

In essence, the EPR Program is doing more than just helping the environment; it's creating an entirely new economy around recycling. It's a win-win for businesses, local communities, and our beautiful planet. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ“ฃ Calling all businesses and organizations! Want to jump into the EPR Program and trade WDCs? DM me, and let's turn recycling into your next big venture!

๐Ÿ‘‰ Don't forget, the EPR law also pushes companies to cut down on plastic waste. To learn more, click on the link in the comment section. Stay tuned for more updates like this โ€“ follow me for a journey towards a greener world! ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒ
