The Youth for Environment in Schools - Organization (YES-O) expands its environmental stewardship through a General Orientation last July 24, 2026.

During the timeframe, incoming and renewing members of PSHS-MRCR YES-O were informed of the Constitution and By-Laws of the organization and met the Executive Team for A.Y. 2026–2027.

The meeting also made each advocate interact with one another, forming a sense of community and camaraderie highlighting to the sustaining effort of YES-O as an inclusive student organization.

The 𝗣𝗦𝗛𝗦-𝗠𝗥𝗖 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 - 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝗣𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗬 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗥𝗖 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 calls for attention on the U.S.- led Pax Silica, a project that poses a significant threat to our natural resources and seeks to expand advanced technologies such as 𝗔.𝗜. and 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵, 🏭 as part of an effort to reduce dependence on China’s established dominance in the global supply chain.

On April 16, 2026, the Philippines signed on this initiative, highlighting promises of job opportunities and economic prosperity. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙖𝙩 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙤𝙨𝙩?

𝟭,𝟲𝟬𝟬 𝗵𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 in New Clark, Tarlac. All for 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 data centers with 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀. ⚡️ If these demands place greater strain on our resources, ordinary Filipinos may ultimately bear the burden through 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀 on top of the 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 of farming land and Indigenous communities.

This is not about money, it’s about protecting the future that we may lose with the wrong decisions. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆. 🌱

The 𝗣𝗦𝗛𝗦-𝗠𝗥𝗖 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 - 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝗣𝗜𝗦𝗔𝗬 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗠𝗥𝗖 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 express our 𝗱𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻 to the proposed mining operations in Sibuyan Island.

Sibuyan Island, often called the “𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐚́𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐨𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚,” is one of the most biologically diverse islands in the Philippines. Home to Mount Guiting-Guiting Natural Park, numerous endemic species, and dense forest ecosystems found nowhere else on Earth.

Sibuyan is more than a 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲– it is a vital source of 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 and 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 for its people.

The proposed open-pit mining operations in a 42-hectare area (equivalent to at least 8 PSHS-MRC campus) pose an 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 to these ecosystems. Mining raises serious concerns over 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘀, and 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴-𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀 on local communities.

Once critical ecosystems are 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗱, they cannot be 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 easily. Although reforestation and rehabilitation efforts may help restore portions of affected areas, they 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘁 fully recreate old-growth forests, replace endemic species, or reverse every ecological loss caused by large-scale land disturbance.

Economic development is crucial. However, it must never come with an 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘀𝘁 to our environment, public welfare, and future generations.

As student leaders and environmental advocates, we believe that genuine progress is measured not only through economic gain but also through our commitment to protecting the natural heritage entrusted to us.

Today, 𝘄𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 the people of Sibuyan defending their island.

We call on fellow scholars, youth organizations, and every Filipino to 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱, 𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲, and 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 grounded in science, sustainability, and social responsibility.

It is a student-led organization that empowers young people to lead environmental actions, promote sustainability, and inspire change in our campus and community. 🌱
