PAN DE COOPERATIBA: Rising with Purpose

Bread is always welcome any season. Pandesal, a beloved staple in Filipino homes, inspired BBMC to launch Pan De Cooperatiba, a bakery built on collaboration, empowerment, and inclusive enterprise.

Thanks to the support of our partners, this dream became a reality. In 2024 BBMC won the Regional Grants-in-Aid Project from DOST-NCR, which provided essential baking equipment through its Community Empowerment through Science and Technology Program.

Skills training was conducted by Technological University of the Philippines – Quezon City, while the participants were recommended by our barangay LGU and BBMC furnished the site.

Located in North Olympus subdivision Zabarte Road Quezon City, our cooperative bakery now serves fresh pandesal daily, along with a variety of well-loved breads. But this is more than just a business—it’s a livelihood initiative that opens doors for persons with disabilities to gain meaningful employment and contribute their talents to a growing enterprise.

We know the road ahead includes challenges—capital, supply chains, staffing, distribution, and others—but with years of cooperative experience and a spirit of resilience, we believe these hurdles will only make us stronger. What we need are committed individuals who value honest work, teamwork, resourcefulness, and shared success.

Richard Arceño, leading Pan De Cooperatiba is now reaching out to institutional customers such as government schools and hospitals. We also welcome partnerships with cafés, restaurants, stores, and bakeries that believe in affordable, nutritious, and products with a purpose.

Currently, it partnered with Green Kafe, a community based bread and coffee hub located in the nearby barangay of Tala.

On June 4, 2025, Bigay Buhay Multipurpose Cooperative (BBMC), in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry – Philippine Trade Training Center (DTI-PTTC) and the Global MSME Academy, successfully held a one-day training session on Effective Leadership Skills tailored for persons with disabilities.

Held at the Dr. Jose Rodriguez Memorial Hospital in Caloocan City, the training was facilitated by DTI with resource person, Dr. Aldrin P. Antivola, a respected Organizational Therapist and Business Efficiency Advisor, known for his engaging and practical leadership sessions.

The participants—mostly BBMC members, including some from the Next Gen Leaders program, a group of youth with disabilities trained under the BBMC and ACTED Philippines project “Next Gen Filipino Leaders for a Zero Exclusion World"—gained practical insights on how to lead with purpose and confidence.

Participants explored:
✅ The 4 key functions of management: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling
✅ Leadership as influence toward goal attainment
✅ Performance and motivation formulas (Performance = Ability × Motivation)
✅ The importance of team cohesiveness and SMART+4 goal setting
✅ What it means to lead with heart, purpose, and adaptability.

This meaningful capacity-building activity will help in developing empowered, capable PWD leaders who are ready to make a difference in their organizations and communities.
