We rely on energy every single day โ€” to work, study, stay connected, and get through our daily routines. So why do brownouts still keep happening?

With these extreme heatwaves weโ€™ve been experiencing, we are using air conditioners, fans, and other appliances for longer hours. As electricity demand rises faster than the available supply, rotational brownouts can happen.

This is why sustainable energy matters now more than ever. As our dependence on electricity continues to grow, we also need more sustainable ways of producing and using energy.

Even small everyday actions โ€” like being mindful of our electricity use โ€” can help reduce pressure on the power grid and support a more sustainable future for both people and the planet. ๐ŸŒŽโšก

Climate change isnโ€™t just background lore. Itโ€™s already affecting the way we live, play, and connect. From stronger typhoons to extreme heat and disappearing natural spaces, the losses are real. But the story isnโ€™t over yet. ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŽฎ

At , creators came together to level up their understanding of the climate crisis and explore how gaming communities can become part of the solution. Through hands-on challenges, interactive workshops, and real conversations, they learned how they can tell climate stories through their content and use their platforms to spark change.

As they , they leave the camp with new knowledge and skillsโ€” and who better but to share those with their communities? Because every player still has choices to make. And every choice can change the game. ๐ŸŒฑ

Nature-based Solutions (NbS) involve engaging communities to protect, restore, and sustainably manage ecosystems. By building community capacity, NbS promotes shared responsibility in ensuring that nature thrives alongside society. WWF-Philippines (WWF-PH) works with different sectors to support local communities in environmental conservation efforts.

As part of the Solutions for the Future (SFF) initiative with the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Red Cross volunteers from Barangay Caub, Del Carmen were trained in beach forest management and coastal protection, in coordination with the Del Carmen Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office. The initiative aims to equip Siargao residents with skills to strengthen ecosystems such as mangroves, which serve as natural barriers against disasters.

Her Excellency Maria Alfonsa Magdalena Geraedts, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Philippines (Embassy of the Netherlands in the Philippines), also joined a tree-planting session during the workshop, reflecting continued support for NbS and environmental action in the country.

Protecting nature is a shared responsibility, and through continued collaboration, WWF-PH and PRC are working to apply NbS principles across sites nationwide to help address climate and biodiversity challenges.

Biglang sobrang init this summer, noh?

Learn more about El Niรฑo in the Philippines and how it has been affecting Filipinos on a daily basis. From extreme heat and possible water shortages to rising challenges in agriculture and food supply, El Niรฑo impacts more than just the weather.

At this time, itโ€™s important for us to work together as we face the challenges of El Niรฑo. Being mindful of our daily consumption and collective action can go a long way.

A dominant species in tropical canopies, Lauan protects watersheds, prevents soil erosion, and provides habitat for countless creatures.

Lauan is one of the trees we planted at Ipo Watershed with GForest. Every tree planted helps safeguard water for millions of Filipinos while bringing life back to our forests.

Not everything about our planet fits in a screen.

In Donsol, our Ambassador Xia Vigor experienced what we often donโ€™t see online. Communities, whale sharks, and even fireflies exist in a delicate balance shaped by everyday choices.

Itโ€™s one thing to witness moments like these. Itโ€™s another to carry them home.

Because protecting what we love is not a one-time experience. It becomes a habit. A decision. A responsibility we choose every day.

This Earth Day, take a moment to reflect. Whatโ€™s one thing youโ€™ll start doing differently today?

๐Ÿฅณ Good news: The Philippines just made big steps to rehabilitate our mangrove forests!

As a member of the Global Mangrove Alliance Philippines, we delivered talks and support to the Philippine Mangrove Conference from March 24-26 to help advance initiatives and actions to protect, conserve and restore the countryโ€™s mangrove forests.

During the conference, the alliance successfully:

โœ… Handed over the National Blue Carbon Action Partnership (NBCAP) Roadmap 2026โ€“2030 to the DENR, institutionalizing the countryโ€™s blue carbon agenda under full government stewardship.
โœ… Launched the Blue Carbon Quantification Protocol (BCQP) โ€” the Philippinesโ€™ first science-based carbon accounting framework.
โœ… Made concrete, time-bound pledges including mangrove restoration through eco-livelihoods, provincial data hubs, a unified ocean governance framework, mangrove aquaculture protocols, commitments to expand coastal greenbelt ordinances and to advance the National Coastal Greenbelt Bill.

So what do these actually mean?

For a long time, mangrove and blue carbon efforts have struggled with unclear guidelines, limited technical capacity, and coordination gaps across different groups.

These milestones start to address those gaps. They give us clearer direction, stronger systems, and a more coordinated way of working together at scale.

This work is part of WWF-Philippinesโ€™ Solutions for the Future (SFF) project, co-implemented with the Philippine Red Cross, and supported by the Netherlands Red Cross, and WWF-Netherlands. Through SFF, nature-based solutions are being advanced in Leyte, Siargao, and Palawan to help communities reduce disaster risks and adapt to climate change.

Stronger systems, clearer direction, and real coordination on the ground. This is what progress for our mangroves looks like ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒŠ

Nature-based solutions (NbS) put nature at the center of how we address todayโ€™s most urgent challenges. By protecting, restoring, and sustainably managing ecosystems, NbS helps reduce disaster risks, strengthen climate resilience, and support the well-being of communities and biodiversity alike.

In the Philippines, this approach is already delivering impact on the ground. Through the Solutions for the Future (SFF) initiative, WWF Philippines, WWF Netherlands, the Netherlands Red Cross (NLRC), and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) have been working together over the past three years to scale community-centered NbS in Siargao, Leyte, and Palawan. Building on this momentum, the partnership is expanding with the involvement of WWF United Arab Emirates and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Philippines. These collective efforts demonstrate how working with nature can effectively protect lives and livelihoods by reducing disaster risks and strengthening communitiesโ€™ capacity to adapt to climate change.

The Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands has also been involved in NbS work including its flood mitigation initiatives in Bulacan, and has expressed interest in supporting more projects, including working with WWF and the Red Cross in future environmental work, as shared by Her Excellency Maria Alfonsa Magdalena Geraedts, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Philippines (Embassy of the Netherlands in the Philippines).

What makes NbS effective is the combination of science, local knowledge, and strong partnerships. By working closely with communities and across organizations, these initiatives are designed to create lasting, inclusive impact where it matters most. Moments like these help turn collaboration into concrete action, opening more opportunities to scale ecosystem-based approaches such as flood risk reduction.

As climate and biodiversity challenges grow, the path forward is clear. Investing in nature is investing in people, resilience, and a more sustainable future.
