After a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the province of Cebu on September 30, leaving many families in need of food, clean water, and shelter, the Guidicelli Foundation, led by Matteo Guidicelli, quickly took action.
Upon learning of the devastation, the foundation immediately mobilized help for affected communities. An initial ₱500,000 was released to jumpstart relief operations, but with the support of friends, private donors, and partners, the total amount raised reached ₱1.5 million, allowing the team to reach more families in need.
On October 4, the team flew to Cebu and purchased essential goods. With vital assistance from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in logistics and transport, all relief items were packed and delivered to the hardest-hit areas.
By October 5, the team journeyed to Bogo City, the earthquake’s epicenter. What was normally a two-hour drive stretched into six due to damaged roads, but spirits remained high. Before deployment, the group paid a courtesy call to Visayas Command (VISCOM), headed by Lt. Gen. Fernando M. Reyeg, who extended full on-ground support.
Most communities visited suffered major structural damage to homes and public buildings. Many residents are sleeping outdoors due to aftershocks and unsafe structures. Access to clean water, food, and electricity remains critical, making solar lights and basic lighting an urgent need.
