In line with the mandate of Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College to promote research excellence and strengthen students’ academic capabilities, the Research and Extension Office of ISPSC Narvacan, in collaboration with the Organization of Future Fisheries Professionals (OFFP), conducted the Student Research Congress 2026 on March 25, 2026, under the theme “Empowering Student Innovation: Advancing Research for Sustainable Development.”

The activity provided a scholarly platform for undergraduate students to present their completed research outputs through various formats, including Oral Research Presentations, Scientific Poster Presentations, Scientific Paper Competition, and Research Infomercial Competition. The congress aimed to encourage students to communicate their scientific findings effectively, develop confidence in presenting research, and engage in constructive academic discussions, thereby fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing.

The proceedings were evaluated by an esteemed panel composed of Dr. Robert S. Ablog (Dean, ISPSC Santa Maria – College of Agriculture, Forestry, Engineering and DevCom), Dr. Patrick S. Gasmen (Instructor, ISPSC Main – College of Teacher Education), and Ms. Romelyn I. Impelido (Agriculturist, Provincial Government of Ilocos Sur), whose expertise and constructive feedback guided the recognition of outstanding research outputs.

This initiative reflects ISPSC’s unwavering commitment to fostering research excellence, advancing academic competence, and nurturing graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to sustainable development and societal progress.

𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐏 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐑&𝐄 𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐒𝐂 𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬.

In partnership with the Organization of the Future Fisheries Professionals (OFFP), the Research and Extension Office of ISPSC Narvacan Campus will host the 2026 Student Research Congress on March 25, 2026.

The congress will serve as an academic platform for undergraduate students from the three departments of ISPSC Narvacan—Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd), Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd), and Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (BSF)—to present and disseminate the findings of their research studies.

This event aims to promote a stronger culture of research within the campus by providing a venue for student researchers to share their scientific outputs, engage in scholarly discussions, and foster interdisciplinary exchange of ideas. Through this initiative, the institution continues to strengthen the rigor and quality of undergraduate research while encouraging evidence-based inquiry across different academic fields.

Seven (7) groups of undergraduate researchers, composed of 31 graduating BS Fisheries students, successfully defended their theses from February 18–20, 2026.

This year’s batch showcased an impressive range of research topics reflecting the diverse and evolving field of fisheries science. Their studies explored areas such as assessment of macroinvertebrate communities, documentation of traditional fishing gear and catch composition among an Indigenous Peoples, socio-economic surveys of fishing communities, bio-physical composition and microbial safety of dried fish, development of innovative seaweed sheets, acceptability of milkfish bone p**o, and population genetics.

These works highlight not only the curiosity and dedication of our students but also the continuing efforts of the department to elevate the caliber of undergraduate research. By encouraging multidisciplinary approaches—from molecular studies to community-based research and food product development—the program continues to strengthen the role of fisheries science in addressing real-world challenges.

Congratulations to our newly defended researchers! Your hard work, perseverance, and passion for fisheries have truly paid off. The future of fisheries science looks bright… and well-researched.

𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤: 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐬-𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

Mr. Christian C. Molina, a faculty member of the Fisheries Department at ISPSC Narvacan Campus, has successfully published his study titled “Isolation of Putative Lactic Acid Bacteria from Yacon (𝘚𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘶𝘴)” in a Scopus-indexed journal. This accomplishment underscores the campus’s research capability and institutional capacity to conduct studies in the fields of microbiology and basic molecular science.

Mr. Molina currently serves as the campus Research Coordinator and as Center Chief of the Fisheries Aquamarine Research Center. Through his commitment to advancing high-quality research, he continues to bring distinction to the department and inspire future fisheries professionals.

Scopus-indexed publications are scholarly works included in the Scopus database, one of the world’s largest and most reputable abstract and citation indexing platforms. Journals indexed in Scopus undergo rigorous evaluation standards, ensuring the quality, credibility, and global visibility of published research.

Hundreds of families have been displaced, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘂𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝟰𝟬𝟬 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻. Afraid. Confused. In urgent need of care, safety, and hope. They need us.
