USI DEBATE SOCIETY AND LIBERTAS OFFICIAL STATEMENT
[CONTENT WARNING: SEXUAL ASSAULT AND SEXUAL HARASSMENT]
The USI Debate Society and Libertas stands by its principles to ensure that all our members and alumni feel safe, are protected, and are uninvolved from and in any moral misconduct. In light of recent events, we would like to inform the general public that starting today, November 26, 2021, Khristian Damielle A. Jamer, an alumnus, and former coach, will no longer be associated with the organization nor its future endeavors.
While we do acknowledge the contributions that Mr. Jamer has brought to the organization over the years, we remain firm in our principles to decry all forms of harassment. We strongly believe that the gravity of the recent allegation calls for the disassociation of Mr. Jamer from the organization, as the matter goes fundamentally against the values and principles that the members of the organization uphold.
Despite Mr. Jamer's move to withdraw from his candidacy, there has yet been a proper statement to be released that acknowledges the accusations, as well as its repercussions towards the victims. We urge Mr. Jamer to take full accountability for his actions instead of what he has repeatedly chosen to highlight in his statements, which not only diverts the attention of people from the real issue but also, even leads to victim blaming. We recognize that this dilutes the essence of creating reparations for the part of the victim.
We vehemently condemn all forms of harassment, and we stand in solidarity with all who wish to make harassers accountable for their actions.
The USI DS and Libertas both seek to empower individuals through discourse, honing them as holistic leaders that will become the voice of the voiceless, and with that, the general public can expect the organization's full support and participation in all actions that are available and necessary in the resolution of the issue at hand.
For integrity, truth, and justice!
