Today, we are officially launching our KASUROG Student Unit Donation Drive for our fellow Bikolanos residing in Calaguas Island, Catanduanes, and Garchitorena.

The onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan (Fung-Wong) has brought immense devastation to many homes across Bicol’s coastal areas. In these trying times, your generosity can bring comfort, hope, and light to families as they work toward rebuilding their lives.

Every contribution can make a meaningful difference. All proceeds will be used to procure hardware materials to help rebuild homes in the affected communities.

𝗨𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗣𝗛 | Calaguas, also known as Calaguas Island, is a group of islands located in the Philippine province of Camarines Norte. There are three (3) barangays that constitute the area namely: Brgy. Banocboc, Brgy. Pinagtigasan, and Brgy. Mangcawayan with approximately 1,934 households affected.

ℹ️ Tano sa Calaguas Island, Vinzons?
With our close contact with their Local Government Unit, the assessment concluded that the group of islands is 3 hours away from Vinzons’ mainland and can only be accessed through the ports at Paracale and Daet, Camarines Norte – making it hard for help to come around. Houses were damaged or destroyed, electricity and all the communications were down and destroyed, and their boats (used for fishing) were destroyed by the Typhoon Uwan.

Currently, the island’s communication lines are still unstable.

𝗨𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗣𝗛 | Bagamanoc is a coastal municipality in the northeastern part of Catanduanes, directly facing the Pacific Ocean. It is known for its scenic shoreline, rich fishing grounds, and proximity to the province’s northernmost areas. However, its location also makes it highly prone to typhoons and other storm-related calamities.

ℹ️ Tano sa Bagamanoc, Catanduanes?
The aftermath of Typhoon Uwan brought destruction to the whole Bagamanoc community once again due to ST Uwan. The houses were down, electricity and all the communications were down and destroyed and their boats (used for fishing) were destroyed by the Typhoon.

Currently, the island’s communication lines are still unavailable. We are closely monitoring with their Diocese.

𝗨𝘄𝗮𝗻𝗣𝗛 | Garchitorena, Camarines Sur is part of the Partido District. Its territory includes the islands of Quinalasag, Lamit, and Malabungot. It is estimated that 325 households were severely affected as per the barangays’ assessment.

ℹ️ Tano sa Garchitorena, Camarines Sur?
Garchitorena is a coastal area that is also facing the Pacific Ocean, making the place vulnerable to typhoons. Garchitorena is also susceptible to storm surges that can destroy properties near the shores. Based on our last dialogue with the LGU Garchitorena, the assessment concluded that due to the storm surge and destructive winds – their houses were damaged or destroyed, electricity and all the communications were down and destroyed, and their boats (used for fishing) were destroyed by the super typhoon.

Currently, cellular signal in the area remains unstable.

As one Ateneo de Naga community, we declare our firm stand against corruption, which weakens our institutions and robs people of their rights, dignity, and future. We demand that our leaders uphold the highest standards of transparency, accountability, integrity, and public service—after all, public office is a public trust.

Time and again, this trust has been betrayed. Communities remain deprived of basic services. Classrooms remain unbuilt as funds are misused; medical supplies were overpriced during the pandemic; and infrastructure projects funded with billions of the people’s money have gone to waste. If the projects exist at all, they may remain incomplete, or are completed with substandard materials. Yet, this is only the tip of the iceberg. We must remind ourselves that this greed did not begin today—it is a recurring abuse deeply rooted in our history. We demand that not only those in lower positions be held accountable, but also the officials who have benefited from this deceit.

Poverty persists despite countless promises. These are not mere statistics, but real lives affected by injustice. Every cent stolen is a classroom denied, a family unfed, and healthcare withheld. Corruption is not only a failure of governance, but also a moral and spiritual crisis. It is a betrayal of the vulnerable, a violation of human dignity, and an offense against the common good. Leadership must be for service, not privilege. Yet responsibility is ignored, funds are squandered, and promises are reduced to empty words.

Here lies the deeper injustice: when public officials steal from the people, it is not just the poor who suffer, but every taxpayer who contributes to the system. Your tax money—earned through your labor—goes toward a system that too often fails to deliver the services and opportunities it promises. When funds are misused, when leaders betray their mandate, the impact is felt by every citizen. We are not just paying taxes, we are paying the price for corruption that harms us all.

𝗧𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀: 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲. Your mandate is to serve the people, not to enrich yourselves. And so, we raise our collective voice to call out those entrusted with public office and the nation’s resources. Your duty is to the people, not to your own political survival. We demand that you face the consequences of your actions and omissions—not someday, but NOW.

In these times when injustice and corruption seem overwhelming, we call on civil society organizations, youth groups, business associations, and faith-based institutions to stand together. Let us not allow apathy to take root. Let us claim our rightful place as citizens who care, as taxpayers who demand accountability, and as believers who seek truth.

On 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟑-𝟏𝟒, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, at the 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐁𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐋𝐚𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐞ñ𝐚𝐟𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚, we—the 𝐀𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢, 𝐔𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐠, and 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐲𝐨𝐠 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬—had the opportunity to serve food for the delegates at 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐂á𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓. Working with the 𝐊𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐍𝐢 𝐈𝐧𝐚 team, we prepared and served warm meals to the many faithful servants who journeyed from across the Philippines. There was a special kind of joy in knowing that a simple cup of warm 𝒈𝒐𝒕𝒐 could bring smiles, comfort, and strength during the event.

On 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, at 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐑𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐞, 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐜𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐞, 𝐍𝐚𝐠𝐚 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, the 𝐀𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐢 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛—celebrated the 20th year of the organization with the theme “𝑺𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒂𝒈𝒌𝒂𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒖𝒏𝒚𝒐𝒈, 𝑺𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒂𝒈𝒈𝒖𝒊𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒅𝒐𝒎.”

This theme highlighted the gathering of the 1st up to the 20th administrations of ASBJE in a meaningful and nostalgic celebration. It honored the organization’s journey and legacy as one of the longest-standing student organizations at Ateneo de Naga University.

Throughout the event, many alumni joyfully reminisced about the bonds they had built during their time in the organization. The celebration was made even more special by the presence of our sister organizations—𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐲𝐨𝐠 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐬𝐰𝐚𝐠 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐛—whose seniors and bunso joined us in the spirit of unity and reflection.

Aside from celebrating the two decades of service and leadership, the celebration also marked a 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: the official induction of this year’s aspirants into the organization as the new bunso. Their acceptance symbolizes giving them wings to soar high as they embark on their new journey as official members and new bunso. It also marks the introduction of the new student leaders who will uphold and carry forward the legacy as part of the 21st administration.

Furthermore, this celebration of 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞, 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 serves as a reminder of our enduring commitment to our mission and vision. From the first administration up to today, we continue to make a difference, bring smiles, and reach out to those in need.
