As we welcome the month of September, we also observe This month, the NCEAN Community joins this vital movement by creating space for conversations that help us

And sometimes, that change begins with a simple invitation:

๐“๐š๐ซ๐š, ๐”๐ฌ๐š๐ฉ ๐“๐š๐ฒ๐จ?

Not every conversation needs to be about having the right words or finding immediate answers. Sometimes, it can simply be about being present, being willing to listen, and being open to learning.

Throughout the month, letโ€™s create more space to:

๐Ÿ’ฌ ๐“๐€๐‹๐Š about mental health with openness and compassion.
๐Ÿง  ๐—Ÿ๐—˜๐—”๐—ฅ๐—ก and share accurate, responsible information.

๐ŸŒฑ ๐—ž๐—ก๐—ข๐—ช where and how support is available when we need it.

You don't need to have all the answers.
You don't need to be an expert.

What matters is that we continue to

This September, letโ€™s ๐œ๐ก๐š๐ง๐ ๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐ง๐š๐ซ๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ๐ž not by expecting everyone to have the same story, but by making room for more understanding, more informed conversations, and more compassionate ways of responding to one another.

Because su***de prevention is not only about recognizing moments of crisis. It is also about building a community where people can feel heard, supported, and connected and where each of us can play a part.

As we begin Su***de Prevention Month, we are reminded that hope can sometimes begin with simply knowing that we do not have to face life's difficulties alone. ๐Ÿ’™

This month, let us create more spaces for honest conversations, compassionate listening, and meaningful support. A simple check-in, a listening ear, or a reminder that someone matters can make a difference.

May we continue to reach out, listen without judgment, and remind one another that help, hope, and connection are always worth seeking.

Guidance Week 2026
โ€œWhat the Heart Remembers: The Child I Still Amโ€
Entry No. 5 from ๐ค๐ค๐จ๐ง๐

If I could revisit a meaningful childhood memory, I would go back to my elementary school years. During that time, I was often ignorant and insensitive toward others, and looking back, I regret the way I acted. That period of my life has significantly shaped who I am as an adult because it serves as a constant reminder of the person I no longer want to be. It has pushed me to become more self-aware and empathetic, and I am now dedicated to changing for the better and treating people with the kindness I lacked back then.

Gentle Reminder (GAโ€™s Perspective):

The fact that you can describe it and recognize the difference between who you were before and how you are doing now means that you have taken the time to reflect on yourself and become self-aware.

I hope you do not hate or despise the person you used to be. You were a child, learning how to navigate the world you were in, and it is normal for a child to go through stages of ignorance, insensitivity, or lack of consideration for others because children are still learning, understanding, and developing emotionally.

What matters now is your ability to reflect, recognize those behaviors, and genuinely desire to grow from them. Give yourself a tap on the shoulder for having the courage and self-awareness to do that.

Do not hate the person you used to be. Instead, gently acknowledge that you were once a child who was still learning and growing. Rather than also recognizing your present efforts to become better, more mindful, and more considerate toward others. Your willingness to change and continuously improve already says a lot about the kind of person you are becoming.

Hello, Thea!

The memory of my childhood that I want to experience again involves the time when my father lived, which I spent with him during peaceful times that now hold deep meaning for me. He spoke to me as he would speak to an adult when he interacted with me. His presence created a welcoming atmosphere that let people feel secure because everything remained constant through whatever occurred outside.

The small daily actions which I observe at all times serve as my most important memory of him. The lessons he taught me through his actions became my most important life lesson. He taught me to be resilient through his actions which he performed without using that term. He showed me how to treat others with kindness through his actions which he performed without using a direct approach to teach me that principle. He demonstrated strength through his behavior which did not require him to increase his voice.

My perspective on existence shifted after his death. His existence in my life determined my choices throughout my entire life. I have learned to treat people through his lessons, which I apply to my interactions with others. The person I have become today exists as a direct result of the love and guidance he provided me during my early years. I do not only remember that memory because I experience it every day.

Gentle Reminder (GAโ€™s Perspective):
Hello, Thea!

Thank you for sharing such a heartfelt and meaningful memory about your father. Reading your reflection shows how deeply his presence shaped not only your childhood, but also the person you are becoming today.

For me, what stands out most in your story is how your father taught you through quiet actions rather than words alone. The way you describe his strength, kindness, calmness, and resilience reflects the kind of safety and guidance every child hopes to experience. It is beautiful that even after his passing, those lessons continue to live within you.

I believe that grief often changes the way we see life, but your reflection also shows something powerful, love does not end when a person is gone. Sometimes, the people we lose continue to guide us through the values they instilled in us, the memories they left behind, and the way we now treat others because of them.

Your father may no longer be physically beside you, but the warmth, wisdom, and love he shared clearly continues to shape your everyday life. And perhaps that is why the memory feels alive even now, because his influence remains part of who you are.

Thank you for allowing us to witness such a meaningful part of your heart.

One of my childhood memories that I want to revisit is when my father taught me many things, especially the importance of saying โ€œthank youโ€ every time someone gives you something. At that time, I wondered why we always had to say thank you. But my father told me that even a simple โ€œthank youโ€ can mean a lot to a person. Eventually, I truly understood what my father was teaching me. I know that saying โ€œthank youโ€ is a very simple thing to do, but for me, it goes beyond that. Saying those words means you value the personโ€”you make them feel seen and appreciated in some way. It also shows that you cherish whatever they have given you, whether it is an act of kindness or something material.

As I grew older, I carried with me what my father taught me. I know it is simple, but it serves as a stepping stone toward creating an environment where everyone feels valued and seen. Every time I hear someone say โ€œthank youโ€ to me, I feel fulfilledโ€”not just because of what I have done, but because it reminds me that we should extend kindness and support to others. Those words carry a kind of lightโ€”not only guiding us, but also igniting our hearts as we face different challenges in life.

Gentle Reminder (GAโ€™s Perspective):

Dear Sender:

What your father has imparted to you is indeed memorable and valuable. The small act of saying โ€œthank youโ€ is a practice of gratitude, and as you have said, it truly makes a person feel valued when expressed to them.

I think your father was hoping that you would grow to become a person who has the habit of saying โ€œthank youโ€ because that would mean that the ability to see and receive experiences with gratitude would become something almost, if not completely, natural to you.

What your father taught you may have molded you to be a thankful person, a person who always sees something to appreciate every day, even if it is just the smallest of things, and that, to me, is a hallmark of a strong person.

Perhaps, what your father was actually hoping for when he was teaching you the words โ€œthank youโ€ was for you to grow into a strong person whose resilience lies in your ability to find someone or something to be grateful for, especially on days when there are many reasons not to be.

The act of thanking is something strong people do โ€“ people who dare to actively find things to be happy about.
