Adopting is a big decision.
We should give them a good life, it doesnât have to be luxurious, just the kind of life that is better than the previous.
DO NOT ADOPT A CAT IF YOU CAN'T LOVE HIM FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE
This afternoon, we kindly asked favor to Ate Rose (one of our ates helping protect our furbabies) if she can visit Peekaboo, our La Marea kitten who is a now a teencat. We are worried because the family who adopted him is not sending updates and not replying to our messages.
When Ate Rose arrived, she saw peekaboo outside the house of the family who adopted him together with other cats. They are staying inside this old cage with no door because it's raining. She saw food bowls but no water. She knocked and the family's housekeeper greeted Ate Rose. She asked how come Peekaboo is outside. It's in the adoption contract that Peekaboo must stay indoors. The housekeeper just smiled and did not say anything. Ate Rose asked if she can take Peekaboo with her because he is sneezing. He has colds. The helper said it's fine.
We used another number to contact the family and the mommy answered. She said she thinks it's okay to release the cats outside because they're not kittens anymore. We reminded her that it's in the contract that peekaboo must stay indoors to keep him safe. She argued that peekaboo is alert and can run fast. She also said that her other adopted cats are staying outside and they're fine. She wants them outside so their neighbors can feed them too when they can't feed them. In short, she made peekaboo one of their subdivision's community cats.
She explained that peekaboo is already big and can be rowdy sometimes. He would run inside the house. She's worried that Peekaboo might break something inside their house. She also complained that Peekaboo is too clingy. He would jump on their laps or on their sofa and sit beside them when they're watching TV. She said her other cats are not like him. She is "too needy" she said. She offered to buy a huge cage for peekaboo to keep him safe if that's our worry. We told her no it okay. We'll get him back. Peekaboo deserves a better family. We reminded her of the time we went to their house to interview her whole family. She said that time peekaboo is just a small kitten who can't survive life outside that's why they agreed that they will keep him indoors.
She did not protest when we said we'll take Peekaboo back.
It is sad that when Peekaboo was a kitten, he was loved. But now that he's almost an adult cat, the family don't want him anymore.
This is one of the reasons why there are strays. Because of families who treats their cats and dogs same way they would treat any material thing. Once it's no longer shiny and new...they don't want it anymore.
We are getting frustrated because we thought our furbabies would have a good life when they get adopted. That they would be loved. But, it's not 100% like what happened to Nougat, Chocolite, Cola, Curly and Cheesy who all passed away tragically because their families did not care for them.
We thank God, we got Peekaboo back before anything bad happens to him.
