ADVISORY|| Election Gun Ban
Effective Date: January 11 to June 12, 2025
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) announce the implementation of the Election Gun Ban in preparation for the upcoming national and local elections. This measure aims to ensure public safety and maintain peace and order during the election period.
What the Gun Ban Covers:
Carrying of Fi****ms or Deadly Weapons: Strictly prohibited in public places, regardless of whether the individual holds a valid permit to carry.
Employment of Security Personnel: Only those authorized by the COMELEC will be allowed to employ security personnel.
Transport of Fi****ms and Explosives: Requires a Certificate of Authority from COMELEC.
Exemptions:
Certain law enforcement agencies are exempt, provided they are on duty and wearing the proper uniform. They must also be covered by a COMELEC-issued exemption.
Penalties for Violations:
Violators of the gun ban will face severe penalties under Section 261 of the Omnibus Election Code, including:
Imprisonment: 1 to 6 years
Disqualification from holding public office
Loss of the right to vote
Confiscation of fi****ms and deadly weapons
Report Violations:
The public is encouraged to report violations to the nearest police station or through PNP hotlines.
