On August 14, children and young people from SOS Children’s Village Cebu came together with Optum for a fun-filled Palarong Pinoy celebration as part of Optum’s Culture Week.

OMBUDS VILLAGE VISITS: STRENGTHENING TRUST AND CHILDREN’S VOICES

From January to July 2026, the OMBUDS Office visited the seven SOS Children’s Villages Pilipinas locations nationwide for its second-year engagement with the villages. Conducted in partnership with Village Directors and local village teams, the visits aimed to strengthen children’s participation, increase awareness of the OMBUDS mechanism, and promote a safe and supportive environment for children and young people in care.

S&P GLOBAL AND SOS MANILA CELEBRATE BUWAN NG WIKA THROUGH BAYBAYIN WORKSHOP

On August 8, 2026, the children and young people of SOS Children’s Village Manila participated in a Baybayin Workshop organized by S&P Global and facilitated by Taipan Lucero of CalligraFilipino.

As part of the celebration of Buwan ng Wika, the workshop gave our young people an opportunity to discover the beauty of Baybayin, explore Filipino heritage, and connect with the culture that shapes their identity.

CALL FOR SAFE SPACES FOR EVERY CHILD

We are deeply saddened by the tragic shooting incident at a school in Zamboanga City that claimed the lives of students and left others injured. Our thoughts are with the children, families, teachers, and the entire school community affected by this heartbreaking incident.

Schools should be places where children feel safe, protected, heard, and free to learn. No child should have to fear violence in a place where they are meant to grow, discover, and build their future.

We also urge everyone to avoid sharing graphic images, videos, or unverified information about the incident. Protecting children also means protecting their dignity and privacy, especially during moments of trauma.

Let us come together to build communities where every child can grow up safe, supported, and surrounded by people who listen and care.

Through our Alternative Care Program, children who cannot live with their families receive safe and holistic family-like care, with access to education, nutritious food, and the support they need to grow and thrive.

At the same time, our Family Strengthening Program works with vulnerable families and communities to prevent family separation and help children grow up in a safe and loving family environment.
