Last April 29, 2026, the ECE students had the opportunity to visit the 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗼 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 as part of the ECE Field Trips and Seminars under the guidance of Engr. Pauline Aquino. The experience gave a closer look at how modern cities use advanced communication systems, monitoring technologies, and real-time data to improve public safety, traffic management, disaster response, and overall city operations.

During the visit, they learned how smart cities integrate CCTV surveillance, sensors, emergency response systems, and centralized monitoring platforms to make urban living more efficient and secure. It was inspiring to see how electronics, telecommunications, automation, and information systems all work together behind the scenes to support an entire city.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀, 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘄𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺. 🤓

As part of the 𝗘𝗖𝗘𝗡4221 𝗘𝗖𝗘 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘀 activities, the ECE4 students joined fellow engineering programs of Colegio de Muntinlupa on an 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘂𝗿 across 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗰 𝗕𝗮𝘆, 𝗭𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀, and 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆.

On the first day, the ECE4-FTS class visited the 𝗦𝗕𝗠𝗔 𝗩𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗩𝗧𝗠𝗦) — the maritime surveillance and vessel tracking hub of the Port of Subic — followed by the 𝗦𝗕𝗠𝗔 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗗𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, where the class got a firsthand look at Subic's 911 command center and the communication systems and devices that keep the Freeport Zone's operations connected and running. The day wrapped up with a brief stop at the Subic 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 (𝗪𝗜𝗡) 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Day two brought the class to the 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿, the first of its kind in the country — serving as the central hub for data analysis and decision-making in Baguio through multiple data sources and cutting-edge technologies such as AI-enabled cameras and environmental sensors — and then to the 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧-𝗣𝗔𝗚𝗔𝗦𝗔 𝗕𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗼 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, where real-time atmospheric data is gathered and transmitted to support national weather monitoring.

The rest of the stay was spent discovering the heritage and cultural landmarks that make Baguio the Summer Capital that it is.

From maritime tech to smart city systems to meteorological science — the tour reminded us why we chose this field. 🛰️📡🌦️

𝗘𝗖𝗘𝟰 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴! ⚙️✨

On April 23, 2026, an insightful company visit at the 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙏𝙚𝙘𝙝𝙣𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙮 – 𝙈𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 was conducted, where they explored advanced technologies in additive manufacturing, non-destructive testing, auto parts testing, and physical metallurgy. 🤸‍♀️⚙️

From seeing a 3D scanner, to 3D printing using various materials depending on the application, to crack detection using different chemicals and techniques, to tire testing and performance evaluation through simulation and specialized machines, and finally to material analysis using different types of microscopes, the experience gave a clear glimpse of how theory is applied in actual industry settings. It also highlighted the importance of choosing the right materials and testing methods in designing systems that can truly withstand real-world conditions, ensuring precision, innovation, and safety not only in engineering processes but also in their real-life applications. 👨‍🏭

This company visit was spearheaded by 𝘎𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱 2 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘊𝘌 𝘍𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥 𝘛𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘚𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘴 under the guidance of 𝘌𝘯𝘨𝘳. 𝘗𝘢𝘶𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘈𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘰, whose support made this learning experience possible. The 4th-year Field Trip and Seminar students of Colegio de Muntinlupa recently visited People's Television Network Inc. (PTNI), diving deep into the technical architecture of national broadcasting. From the high-stakes Technical Operations Center to the hands-on assembly of a satellite dish, it was an eye-opening experience that bridged engineering theory with real-world application. Students witnessed the precision behind every live broadcast and even shared a "pinch-me" moment with an on-air appearance during Sentro Balita. This visit offered a rare glimpse into the invisible systems that keep the nation informed, leaving our future professionals inspired by the power of media and technology. 💡 A huge thank you to the PTNI team for the warm welcome and for providing such a meaningful look into the future of Philippine broadcasting! 🇵🇭✨

𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴!🚆

The ECEN4221: ECE Field Trips and Seminars class recently visited Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), getting an up-close look at the systems and operations behind one of Metro Manila’s key transportation networks.

From the facilities to the people behind the scenes, it was an eye-opening experience that brought our lessons to life beyond the classroom. During the visit, students learned about LRMC's role in operating and maintaining LRT Line 1, while also gaining a broader understanding of the differences between LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 and how each line plays a vital role in keeping the city moving every day. One of the highlights was getting a closer look at LRMC's Operations Control Center (OCC) — the nerve center responsible for monitoring and overseeing the entire line's operations in real time, ensuring every train runs safely and efficiently from end to end.💡
