This October, we celebrate the history, courage, achievements, and contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. From those who fought for equality in the past to those inspiring change today, every story deserves to be heard and remembered. 🏳️‍🌈

As they say, "Be proud of yourself." This doesn't only apply to achievements but also to those who are hidden in the community. No one should judge another just because of their sexuality—BE PROUD! 💞

🌸 This October, we value early detection and regular awareness of breast cancer.

💕 But how did this all start? Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) was first launched in 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟓 where it started as a 𝑤𝑒𝑒𝑘-𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑔 𝑐𝑎𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑖𝑔𝑛 through a partnership between the American Academy of Family Physicians and Imperial Chemical Industries to help 𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒆 𝒂𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒎𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒎𝒔 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒆𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒚 𝒅𝒆𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 🦩

🎀 Then later on in the year 1991, 𝓒𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓵𝓸𝓽𝓽𝓮 𝓗𝓪𝓵𝓮𝔂, an activist, began making peach-colored ribbons by hand in the comfort of her own home, then pasting them into cards petitioning the government to add funds for cancer prevention.

🎗️ Then finally, in 1992, Self magazine and giant Estée Lauder adapted Charlotte’s concept into what is now the iconic light pink ribbon, dispersing millions through makeup counters to solidify pink as the symbol of the battle.

💗 Breast cancer is more common among women, but it doesn’t mean it can’t happen to men. 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐬, the legendary drummer of the rock band KISS, was diagnosed with the illness in 2008. After his mastectomy turned out to be a success, he became a devoted ambassador urging men not to let "𝘮𝑎𝘤𝘩𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝑎𝘱" stop them from getting lumps checked out.

🎗 From the inaugural 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘔𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘋𝘢𝘺 in 1992 to the global campaigns established today, this movement has continued to create space for visibility, understanding, and representation.

✨ Courageous individuals and advocates worldwide have helped bring internal struggles into the spotlight and challenge misconceptions about psychological well-being.

And today, 𝘖𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘳 10 is more than just a date on the calendar—it’s a reminder to learn, listen, accept, and heal! So, whether you’re navigating your own journey or standing beside someone who is, let’s make room for compassion, respect, and deep understanding. 💘

Because sometimes, being seen can mean everything.

".... You can shake their hands and give them a hug: 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻 knows they need it." — 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 🫂

Back then, people often had certain misconceptions about patients battling HIV/AIDS, such as that HIV spreads through casual contact such as 𝐇𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 and 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬, or that HIV/AIDS only affects gay men or people who use drugs. 💊

Do these illnesses really just apply to those a part of the LGBTQIA+ community? These are just myths, but still a misconception to this day. 🤔

⭐️ Reminiscence reminds us of certain places and times, but 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 leads us back to a key principle of our views today. One of these is the poignant story of HIV/AIDS: the journey of a fearful, enigmatic epidemic from the 80s to a tribute to humanity and scientific progression.

🩺Transitioned from the West to Central Africa in the early twentieth century; Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) could be described as a '𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙡𝙮 𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧.’ It silently ambushes our CD4 T-helper cells, which causes the human body to become more vulnerable to Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

In the early years of the widespread virus, a diagnosis felt like a death sentence. However, the appearance of Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) changed everything in the blink of an eye in the 90s. ⭐️

☀️ Today, over 50% of people living with HIV are aged 50 and older; a number expected to reach 70% worldwide by the year 2030. But living longer brings new obstacles. Including "𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙢-𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜," where the bacteria hiding in cellular pools keep the immune system on lifelong high alert.

Throughout the history of AIDS, highly idolized figures have remodeled how the world sees it, including 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐞 𝐌𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐲, Queen's iconic frontman. He kept his diagnosis private until the day before his death in the year 1991, making a lasting impact that still continues to drive global awareness. 🌏

Aging with HIV is a 𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 event, won through scientific measures, support, and 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗿. As our society grows older and more aware, fighting against the stigma and supporting long-term health continues to prosper essentially.
