🍊 Hello, Ka-Pawikan! Did you hear? 😄

The whole Philippines is buzzing because an online petition wants to change the name of the fruit Orange to "Sharmaine" ! 🍊→👩🟠

And here at the Pawikan Conservation Center — we love a good trending moment! 💚

🐢 So, what do pawikans think about Sharmaine?

Well, whether you call it Orange or Sharmaine 🍊✨ — we just want to remind everyone that our oceans are NOT a trash bin 🚯🌊

Because whether it's an orange peel, a plastic bag, or a styrofoam container — none of it belongs in the home of our pawikans. 🐢💔

🍊 Fun Pawikan + Orange connection:

Did you know? Sea turtles sometimes mistake orange-colored plastic for food — like jellyfish or sponges. 😢

So while we laugh along with the "Sharmaine" trend, let's also remember:
✅ Dispose of your trash properly — even fruit peels! 🗑️
✅ Say NO to single-use plastics 🚯

🐠🪸 Happy World Reef Day! 🌊💙

Today, we celebrate one of the most diverse and vital ecosystems on Earth — coral reefs. 🪸✨

Often called the "rainforests of the sea," coral reefs cover less than 1% of the ocean but are home to more than 25% of all marine life. 🐟🐚🦀

🐢🇵🇭 What do reefs have to do with pawikans?
A lot! 💚

Our beloved Hawksbill sea turtles depend on healthy coral reefs for food — they munch on sponges that grow on reefs, helping keep the coral balanced and thriving. 🌊🐢

When reefs are healthy, pawikans are healthy.
When pawikans are healthy, reefs stay healthy.
It's a beautiful cycle of life. 💙🪸

⚠️ But our reefs are in danger.

Threats include:

Rising ocean temperatures 🌡️
Ocean acidification
Plastic pollution 🚯
Destructive fishing practices 🎣
Coastal development

🛡️🐢 Preparedness Meets Conservation at the Pawikan Center! 💚

This past May 30, 2026, our dedicated Pawikan Center staff and volunteers underwent a Community Emergency Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Seminar conducted by Sir Edgardo Galindez of the Rotary Club of Sto. Domingo. 🧑‍🏫📋

Because protecting pawikans also means being ready to protect our people, our shores, and our community in times of emergency. 🌊🌪️💪

🎓 We also proudly acknowledge the presence of a very special guest:

Dean Angie Blanco – former President of the Pawikan Conservation Center 🙌🐢💚

His leadership and legacy continue to inspire us as we move forward in our mission to protect marine turtles and empower our community. Thank you, Dean Angie, for your continued support and presence! 👏✨

The Rotary Club didn't just stop at the seminar. Back in February 2026, they:
