Manucang was invited as a guest speaker to discuss โ€œSocial Inclusion and Equity through Understanding Intercultural Respect and Solidarity towards the Tri-People of Monkayo.โ€ His talk emphasized the value of mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation among the Lumad, Muslim, and Christian communities, collectively known as the Tri-People of Monkayo.

The activity was attended by 60 participants, composed of youth leaders, students, and community members from Barangay Naboc. Participants actively engaged in the discussion, reflecting on their responsibilities as young advocates of unity, inclusivity, and peace.

The participation of MMYO through Project Lumon reinforced the organizationโ€™s commitment to promoting social inclusion and equity at the grassroots level. The so-called โ€œBadjao Outfit Trendโ€ on TikTok is not just a harmless fad โ€” it is an act of cultural mockery that disrespects one of the most marginalized indigenous groups in the Philippines. Turning the struggles and way of life of the Badjao into costumes for entertainment reduces their identity to a stereotype and deepens the discrimination they already face. Indigenous clothing and traditions carry deep cultural meaning, and treating them as props for social media trends erases that significance.

We must put an end to this trend and instead use platforms like TikTok to promote respect, inclusion, and awareness of indigenous communities. Mockery should never be normalized, especially when directed at groups who already experience hardship and prejudice. Let us choose content that uplifts rather than ridicules, and ensure that social media becomes a space of cultural appreciation and solidarity โ€” not exploitation.

We, the Project Lumon, stand in solidarity to honor the enduring culture, traditions, and resilience of our indigenous communities โ€” the living heartbeat of our nationโ€™s heritage.

May we continue to empower our indigenous brothers and sisters by protecting their ancestral lands, preserving their cultural heritage, and amplifying their voices. Let our commitment go beyond celebration โ€” towards action, unity, and the pursuit of justice for generations to come
