UP Lipad greets the g**s, theys, and everyone in between a !

This month serves as a powerful reminder of the struggles and triumphs experienced by individuals who have fought for their rights and continue to advocate for equality. The history of Pride Month is rooted in the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a pivotal moment in the LGBTQ+ rights movement. Commemorating these events highlights the ongoing need for societal change and acceptance, fostering a more inclusive world where everyone can live authentically without fear of discrimination.

Pride Month is a celebration of love, acceptance, and the right to live freely, making it a vital occasion for honoring the individuality and humanity of every person within the LGBTQ+ community. To exist openly as a person within the LGBTQ+ community is an act of revolution because it defies societal norms that have long marginalized and silenced LGBTQ+ individuals. By living authentically, gay individuals challenge discriminatory laws, prejudices, and systemic injustices, asserting their right to equality and acceptance. Each expression of identity and love during Pride Month declares resistance against a history of exclusion, making the personal inherently political and revolutionary.

This year, UPV Pride 2024 brings back Chrysalis the Podcast on its 5th episode! 🤩✨ From lectures to lip-syncs 🫦, our drag queen scholars will bring us to the different side of their glamour world.

Let’s get ready to witness the power of drag as it challenges the norms, showcase creativity, and celebrates diversity in the upcoming episode of Chrysalis the Podcast: Pride of a Drag Queen in the Academe on March 30, 2024.

For this episode, we have our stunning guest speakers, Moi Taura, Khylle Jules Arsenal, Egie Gepilano, RM Fugikawa and Nathalie Morales, to tell us their stories and testimonies about drag. 👑 We will also discuss with them the common misconceptions about drag as performance art, as well as its role in the classroom and in activism.

Join us tomorrow at 6PM to uncover how these fierce butterflies navigate not just the runway, but also the halls of the university! 💅✨

Beklaban: Gender Based Debates has officially concluded. Terrence Masigon, the Skimmers representative, bags first place and best speaker while opposing the motion 𝐓𝐇𝐖 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐜𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧. John Carlos Gumbao, from Redbolts, and Angelo Mangalus, from Clovers, got second and third place respectively. 📣✨

UP Lipad starts off UPV Pride Month with “EduGAYtion: SOGIE101 Dorm Caravan” this March 9, 2024. In creating more inclusive, diverse and safer spaces within and outside the university, this talk sought to educate the public on the various concepts surrounding gender. It’s SOGIE education made easy, right at your doorstep.

UPV Pride is back! This annual month-long celebration of the university’s LGBTQIA+ community has so much in store for you. 🌟

This year’s theme, “Kulayan Natin ang Kalayaan” calls for the continued commitment in fighting against discrimination and oppression towards the LGBTQIA+ community, and that despite our struggles, celebrate love, pride, and community!

Come celebrate this month with us! 🌈

This event is co-organized with the UP Visayas University Student Council, UPV College of Arts and Sciences Student Council, and Samahan ng Mag-aaral at Kabataan- Kababaihan (SAMAKA-KA).
