The Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (BSA) Program of Davao Oriental State University Main Campus proudly deployed its first batch of interns to their respective On-the-Job Training (OJT) placements, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey and professional growth. This internship program serves as a vital bridge between classroom learning and real-world agricultural practice, allowing students to apply their knowledge, develop practical skills, and gain valuable industry experience.
The first batch of BSA interns was deployed to partner Host Training Establishments (HTEs) located in Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte. Through this opportunity, the interns will immerse themselves in actual agricultural operations, learn from industry professionals, and further strengthen their commitment to advancing sustainable agriculture.
The interns were accompanied during the deployment by Internship Coordinator for Crop Science, Harvy B. Desales; Internship Coordinator for Animal Science, Kayle Rose L. Matias; and BSA Program Head, Meljhon N. Mandariaga, MSA, who continue to guide and support the students throughout their internship journey.
A total of 13 BSA majors in Crop Science were deployed to Reicher's Banana Farm Inc. in Pantukan, Davao de Oro on March 11, 2026, where they will gain hands-on experience in banana production and farm management.
Meanwhile, 4 BSA majors in Crop Science were assigned to Vine's Phyto Lab and Agricultural Consultancy - House of Musa in Tagum City, Davao del Norte on the same date, where they will be exposed to plant health diagnostics, laboratory practices, and agricultural consultancy services.
In addition, 9 BSA majors in Animal Science were deployed to Nabunturan Farmers' Multi Purpose Cooperative in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro on March 11, 2026, where they will gain practical knowledge in livestock management and cooperative-based agricultural operations.
The program also extends its sincere gratitude to the leaders of the partner institutions for warmly hosting and supporting the interns: Reichard Dumaluan, CEO of Reicher's Banana Farm Inc.; Love Vine C. Lavador, Proprietor of Vine's Phyto Lab and Agricultural Consultancy - House of Musa; and Marilyn R. Delos Reyes, Chairperson of Nabunturan Farmers' Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
The program likewise expresses appreciation to Jeric Biol, Researcher of VPLAC-HOM; Irene Cifra, Human Resource Officer of RBFI; and Eden Valledor, Manager of NAFAMCO, for their assistance and warm welcome extended to the interns.
This internship marks a significant step in shaping the students into competent, innovative, and service-oriented future agriculturists. As they step beyond the classroom and into the field, these interns carry with them the knowledge, values, and skills nurtured by the university, ready to contribute to the growth, development, and sustainability of the agricultural sector.
