☢️ 𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖𝐒 | 𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐃𝐑. 𝐏𝐀𝐔𝐋𝐎 𝐂. 𝐂𝐀𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐒 🇵🇭

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝑭𝑨𝑻𝑯𝑬𝑹 𝐎𝐅 𝑵𝑼𝑪𝑳𝑬𝑨𝑹 𝑴𝑬𝑫𝑰𝑪𝑰𝑵𝑬 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝑷𝑯𝑰𝑳𝑰𝑷𝑷𝑰𝑵𝑬𝑺

When you hear “𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿,” you might think of bombs or danger. But for Dr. Paulo C. Campos, nuclear science meant something else: a tool for 𝙪𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 and 𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚. 🩺🔬

National Scientist Dr. Paulo C. Campos helped establish the foundations of nuclear medicine in the Philippines. He founded the country’s 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 and the 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 in the Department of Medicine at the University of the Philippines, and established the 𝐓𝐡𝐲𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐜 at UP-PGH Medical Center.

His research on 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, and 𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 earned several 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙯𝙚𝙨 in 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙘𝙝 𝘼𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨.

Beyond the laboratory, he led the 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 in Bay, Laguna, bringing 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲, 𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, and 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 closer to the people.

With 𝟳𝟱 𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, including several award-winning studies, Dr. Campos showed how 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 could deepen our understanding of 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗼𝘀.

🔬 From the 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 to the 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, Dr. Campos proved that 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞.

As students, we often 𝐨𝐛𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞, 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, and 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧. But sometimes, even the greatest lesson that we should realize is to 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘦. 🚀✨

Driven by curiosity about the country’s rich flora, Dr. Luz Oliveros-Belardo, a Filipina chemist and National Scientist, dedicated more than 𝒇𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒄𝒂𝒅𝒆𝒔 to uncovering the chemical properties and potential of native plants. 🌱

Her work led to the 𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 33 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬, helping expand knowledge of the country’s botanical resources and their potential applications in 𝒎𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒊𝒏𝒆, 𝒇𝒐𝒐𝒅, 𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆, and 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒓𝒚. 🔬

Through her research, Dr. Belardo demonstrated how 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 could serve as a foundation for 𝐬𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. Her work continues to inspire young Filipinos to pursue chemistry, pharmacy, botany, and other STEM fields in the 𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒗𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝒅𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕. 👩‍🔬

Sa buong buwan ng Agosto, muling umalingawngaw ang mga salitang sumasalamin sa ating kultura, kasaysayan, at pagkakakilanlan—maligayang pagdiriwang ng 𝐁𝐮𝐰𝐚𝐧 𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐚! 🎉

Ang 𝐰𝐢𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 ay hindi lamang mga salitang ating binibigkas, kundi isang 𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐠 𝐧𝐚 𝐧𝐚𝐠-𝐮𝐮𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐲 sa ating mga puso, kuwento, at pagkakakilanlan bilang isang bayan. 🌾
