The rush hour traffic may not look so different whether it's sunrise or sundown. Most of us have already memorized where the bottlenecks are based on the time of day and, as bike commuters, we learn pretty fast that patience is a virtue that we must always carry to get to Point B in peace β and in one piece.
Having been to the the Bike Bus Pilot Ride last week and then the Bike Bus Launch Ride earlier today, it seems that patience is needed more so during weekday mornings β when people are fighting for the clearest path to get to work on time.
Initiatives like 350 Pilipinas' Workers' Bike Bus may not solve the traffic situation and the ongoing fuel crisis directly, but when people start feeling safe about riding their bikes, simply because they now know that they have other cyclists to ride with in the midst of Metro Manila's chaos, it might just make a difference. It was great to see how fellow advocates and workers joined the ride this morning, gathering for this cause and then discussing how we could make Bike Bus Pilipinas work β long-term.
Perhaps, the differences may be small at first. But true safety β the kind that changes entire cultures β doesn't reveal itself in one step, nor two. It shows its full form in consistency.
In the numbers that matter.
