Last Sunday's 39th Commemoration of Marikina Police Memorial Day with the Hon. NICOLAS DELOSO TORRE III, as this year's Guest Speaker, held at the Marikina Police Memorial Monument in Loyola Memorial Park Marikina A Bonifacio Avenue Barangay Tañong Marikina City.
The Marikina Police Memorial Day celebrates the men and women of the Marikina City Police Force who have served the city residents in their capacity as law enforcers and maintaners of public order and safety. It honors members of the city police force who have passed away after rendering meritorious adherence to duty, benefiting the city's populance.
More importantly, it provides the highest recognition, respect and profound gratitude to those police officers who died gallantly and heroically in the line of duty - accepting the tenet of the "ultimate sacrifice" when it was called for, against those whose desire is to perpetuate lawlessness.
The primary objective of the Police Memorial Day Celebration is provide factual examples of role models for the current and the future police force to emulate, and to inspire these men and women to take a righteous path in discharging the duties of their position.
Specifically, the Celebration aims to:
1. Highlight the City of Marikina's respect and high regard for the Police Force.
2. Create awareness among members of civil society and the population at large; of the importance, contribution, and indispensability of law enforcers, for rapid urbanizing community.
3. Project a better and stronger positive image of the police force among the city's residents, to forge better rapport and cooperation in public order and safety implementation.
Started by the Civic Action Team of Marikina in 1987 as part of its continues advocacy in support to our Marikina Police Force then. Institutionalized by virtue of Municipal Resolution No. 058 Series of 1990 entitled "Declaring September 8 as Marikina Police Memorial Day" which was approved unanimously by then Municipal Council of Marikina on August 24, 1990 and by then Municipal Mayor Hon. Dr. RODOLFO B VALENTINO SR., D.M.D., later years the commemoration was moved every 2nd Sunday of September of each year which became the tradition since then.
Traditionally the program is started by a community parade from Marikina Freedom Park in Barangay Santa Elena Marikina City to the Marikina Police Memorial Monument in Loyola Memorial Park in A Bonifacio Avenue Barangay Tañong Marikina City.
