Aligned with the United Nations’ SDG #14: Life below water — that aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development, JCI Bohol Sandugo launches BAI The Sea 2.0 — a Bohol Aquatic Initiative in one of the coastal towns.

Back in 2021, Typhoon Odette ravaged all towns of Bohol, destroying many coral reefs underwater. Fish homes that took decades to grow were gone in mere hours. Based on successful results from a similar project in Costa Rica, the initiative aims to construct multiple ‘fish condos’ using safe and sustainable materials.
What makes this project extra special is that it is the output of another environment-related initiative of the chapter — B.U.A.K. To Back. This program collects Broken, Unused, and Abandoned Knickknacks, including waste glass from people and restaurants, which we then grind into smaller bits and mix with cement and sand to create hollow blocks for building the artificial reef. This sustainable process helps reduce waste while rebuilding marine ecosystems. Additionally, we will ensure that no plastic is included in the bottles, keeping our reef construction as eco-friendly as possible.
To successfully build a number of artificial fish condos and collect funds for more Bohol Aquatic Initiatives in the future, we would like to encourage everyone to buy a brick to build a reef. For your donations, one brick costs Php 50. We appreciate whatever is heartily given.
The initiative will be implemented in Bood, Maribojoc, on April 27th, 2025, Sunday at 8 AM.
Please send your donations to GCash: 09192236960 (Joph Jesuie Mari Ucang, JCI LO Treasurer 2025). For cash donations, please send us a PM.
Let’s work together to restore our marine ecosystems and ensure a sustainable future for our oceans!
