Today, we honor Araw ng Kagitingan, remembering the bravery of those who fought in the Battle of Bataan. Despite overwhelming odds, they stood firm for freedom and country.

We also remember the suffering endured during the Bataan Death March, where courage remained unbroken even in the face of hardship. Their sacrifice is a lasting symbol of strength and resilience.

Today, the spirit of valor lives on through Social Work—in serving others, uplifting communities, and standing for justice. True heroism continues in acts of compassion and service.

The Islamic Seminar “Between Desire and Discipline: A Seminar on Ethics, Relationships, and Self-Control” brings students together in a meaningful space for reflection, learning, and dialogue. The seminar aims to deepen understanding of ethical conduct, responsible relationships, and the importance of self-discipline as guided by Islamic teachings.

Through this initiative, students are encouraged to reflect on the balance between personal desires and moral responsibility, while strengthening their commitment to values that promote integrity, respect, and accountability in everyday life.

March is National Women’s Month, a time to celebrate the strength, leadership, and contributions of women in shaping society. In the field of Social Work, we honor the remarkable women whose dedication and compassion have transformed the lives of countless individuals and communities.

Among these influential figures is Thelma Lee-Mendoza, a respected scholar and practitioner known for her contributions to social work education and practice in the Philippines. Through her work—especially in developing foundational materials for social work students—she has inspired generations of future social workers to uphold professionalism, empathy, and service to marginalized sectors.

We also recognize other pioneering women who helped shape the profession, such as Josefa Jara Martinez, one of the early leaders in professionalizing social work in the country, and Asuncion A. Perez, who significantly contributed to strengthening social welfare programs and services in the Philippines.

As we celebrate this meaningful month, we also uphold the 2026 National Women’s Month theme: “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society”, with the sub-theme “Lead like the Babaylans, Filipinas!”.

Their legacy reminds us that social work is more than a profession—it is a commitment to social justice, human dignity, and community empowerment. As we celebrate National Women’s Month, we honor the women who paved the way for today’s social workers and continue to inspire us to serve with compassion, courage, and integrity.
