PGCA Marawi and Lanao del Sur Chapter Holds 12th Chapter Conference
November 22–23, 2025 | Capitol Gym, Marawi City
The Philippine Guidance and Counseling Association (PGCA) Marawi City and Lanao del Sur Chapter successfully held its 12th Chapter Conference in partnership with the MSU Panginam Healing and Wellness Center, gathering mental health practitioners and advocates across the province for two days of learning, collaboration, and program development.
With the theme “Access to Service: Mental Health in Crisis and Emergencies,” the event brought together 180 participants—guidance counselors and designates, educators, and postgraduate students—committed to strengthening mental health services during crises, disasters, and evolving community challenges.
The conference opened with an inspiring keynote address from Ms. Kristianni O. Bance, RPm, RPsy, who emphasized the urgency of ensuring accessible, culturally grounded, and crisis-ready mental health services, especially in communities deeply affected by conflict and emergencies.
A series of plenary sessions followed, presented by respected experts in the field: Dr. Aminoding B. Limpao, Director Faridah D. Alango, Aleem Shanolah Rasuman, Ms. Raijana T. Esmail and Mr. Abdulrahman Amerol.
Speakers offered profound insights on crisis intervention, psychosocial support, and community-centered mental health approaches. A particularly meaningful focus was the discussion on the essential role of mental health in Islam. Participants were reminded that caring for one’s mental well-being is both a personal responsibility and a spiritual practice in the faith.
Another inspiring message came from Dr. Lucila O. Bance, one of the esteemed experts who strongly championed RA 12080, the landmark legislation for the Guidance and Counseling profession.
One of the major accomplishments of the event was the presentation of a contextualized local mental health program, collaboratively developed by participants. This output integrates cultural sensitivity and Islamic values, offering a framework that aligns with the unique identity and lived realities of communities in Marawi City and Lanao del Sur.
The PGCA Chapter expressed deep gratitude to the Provincial Governor and the City Mayor’s Office for their unwavering support and sponsorship, which made the two-day gathering possible. Sincere appreciation was also extended to the Schools Division Superintendents for the strong support and encouragement that enabled educators and guidance designates to actively participate.
The 12th Chapter Conference concluded with a unified call to continue advocating for mental health services that are inclusive, accessible, and reflective of both local culture and Islamic principles. The event stands as another significant stride toward strengthening community resilience and promoting holistic well-being across the region.
