It is a Sunnah to fast during the first nine days, especially on the Day of Arafah (9th of Dhul-Hijjah), which expiates the sins of the previous and coming year.

The Prophet (๏ทบ) urged increasing the recitation of Tahmid (Alhamdulillah), Tahlil (La ilaha illallah), and Takbir (Allahu Akbar) during this time.
