The 𝐁𝐨𝐢𝐠𝐚 𝐜𝐲𝐧𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐧 (𝐝𝐨𝐠-𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐧𝐚𝐤𝐞) was spotted near the University Hospital yesterday and was safely turned over to 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝘀𝘀𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗮 by the Director of the University Homestay, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝘂𝗯𝗶𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘆𝗼.

The snake is currently undergoing an initial health assessment to ensure it is in good condition, after which it will be safely released back into an appropriate habitat.

We sincerely appreciate her prompt response and calm handling of the situation, which reflects a genuine understanding of wildlife and its role in our environment.

Encounters like this may come unexpectedly, but they remind us that with a composed and non-aggressive approach, both human safety and animal welfare can be protected. Moments like these show that peaceful coexistence with wildlife is not only possible, it is achievable through awareness and respect

𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐏𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐫: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥-𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐎𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 🌊🦦

The Asian small-clawed otter, 𝘈𝘰𝘯𝘺𝘹 𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘶𝘴, is the smallest otter species in the world and can be identified by its compact body, short brown fur, and distinctively small claws that do not extend beyond its webbed fingers—giving it remarkable dexterity. Its rounded face, pale throat, and expressive eyes make it especially recognizable. Unlike other otters, it uses its sensitive front paws more than its mouth to search for food, skillfully feeling for crustaceans, mollusks, and other small prey in muddy waters.

𝑭𝒖𝒏 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕: highly social nature—it lives in family groups and communicates using a wide range of chirps, whistles, and squeaks.

Conservation groups like the International Union for Conservation of Nature highlight its vulnerability due to habitat loss and the illegal pet trade, making awareness and protection efforts more important than ever.

𝐎𝐜𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐳𝐞𝐫: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐒𝐞𝐚 𝐓𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐥𝐞 🐢🫧

The green sea turtle, 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘢 𝘮𝘺𝘥𝘢𝘴, is one of the largest sea turtles and can be identified by its smooth, heart-shaped carapace that ranges from olive to dark brown, often with beautiful mottled patterns, and a relatively small head compared to other marine turtles. Despite its name, its body fat appears green due to its herbivorous diet as an adult—mainly seagrasses and algae. This species is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters around the world, including the Philippines—commonly found in areas like the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park, Apo Reef Natural Park, and Balicasag Island, where rich seagrass beds support their feeding habits.

𝑭𝒖𝒏 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕: its remarkable natal homing behavior—females return to the exact beach where they hatched to lay their eggs, guided by Earth’s magnetic fields. These turtles can migrate thousands of kilometers between feeding grounds and nesting sites, making them true ocean navigators.

Globally recognized as endangered, their conservation is supported by organizations like the International Union for Conservation of Nature, emphasizing the importance of protecting marine habitats and reducing threats such as plastic pollution and bycatch.

𝐂𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐲 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐧: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐊𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐨 🌳🐾

The Huon tree kangaroo, 𝘋𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘪, is a uniquely adapted marsupial found in the montane forests of Papua New Guinea. It can be identified by its thick, woolly fur that ranges from reddish-brown to golden, a pale face, and a long, bushy tail that helps with balance in the treetops. Unlike ground-dwelling kangaroos, it has shorter hind limbs and stronger forelimbs with curved claws—perfect for climbing and gripping branches.

𝑭𝒖𝒏 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕: its incredible ability to leap between trees and even drop from heights of up to 18 meters without injury, thanks to its strong limbs and padded feet.

Despite its agility, the Huon tree kangaroo is currently 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 due to habitat loss and hunting, with conservation efforts supported by organizations like the International Union for Conservation of Nature and the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program working to protect its forest home and ensure its survival.

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐁𝐞𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐅𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐁𝐞𝐞🍯🐝

The Asian honey bee, 𝘼𝙥𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙖 , can be identified by its smaller, more slender body compared to the 𝘼𝙥𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙖, with distinct dark bands across its abdomen and a generally darker coloration that helps it blend into forested environments. It typically nests in cavities such as hollow trees or rock crevices, forming smaller colonies than its Western counterpart.

𝑭𝒖𝒏 𝑭𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒔: it’s impressive defense behavior called “heat balling,” where worker bees swarm around predators like hornets and generate heat to kill them. It is also highly adapted to tropical climates, capable of foraging earlier in the day and under more variable weather conditions.

In the Philippines, its importance goes beyond ecology—under Republic Act No. 12308, bees are officially classified as livestock, recognizing their crucial role in food production and agricultural systems, and strengthening efforts toward their protection and sustainable management.

𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐄𝐅 𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐃 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄𝐑𝐒: 𝐓𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐑𝐒 𝐎𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊 ⏰

Today we celebrate one of the most unique silhouettes in the animal kingdom, the incredible members of the family 𝑻𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒆! From the sleek 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐫 (𝑻𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒖𝒔 𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒄𝒖𝒔) to the woolly 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐬 (𝑻𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒖𝒔 𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒒𝒖𝒆), these "living fossils" have remained largely unchanged for millions of years. As master seed dispersers, tapirs are the 𝘂𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁, ensuring the survival of countless plant species across Central and South America and Southeast Asia. 🔨👨‍🔧

𝗙𝗨𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧: Tapirs are often called "𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐝𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐫𝐬!" 💥 As they crash through the undergrowth, they create clearings that allow sunlight to reach the forest floor, promoting new growth. Plus, their prehensile noses act like a "mini trunk," helping them grab hard-to-reach leaves and fruit with expert precision!

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗦: Despite their ancient lineage, tapirs are under heavy fire from habitat fragmentation, poaching, and traffic accidents. Because they reproduce slowly, every single individual is vital to the survival of the species. Protecting their corridors means protecting the very lungs of our planet.

Let’s give some trunk-sized love to these gentle, leaf-munching giants! 🖤

Today we celebrate the most misunderstood powerhouses of the savannah, the fierce and fascinating members of the family 𝑯𝒚𝒂𝒆𝒏𝒊𝒅𝒂𝒆! Whether it’s the iconic 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐲𝐞𝐧𝐚 (𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒂 𝒄𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒕𝒂) or the 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐇𝐲𝐚𝐞𝐧𝐚 (𝑯𝒚𝒂𝒆𝒏𝒂 𝒉𝒚𝒂𝒆𝒏𝒂), these predators are far more than just "laughing scavengers." With a social structure more complex than many primates and a bite force that can crush bone, hyenas are the 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘀 of the African plains. ✨

𝗙𝗨𝗡 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧: Hyena society is a total 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵𝘆! 💋👮‍♀️Females are larger, more aggressive, and hold the highest rank in the clan, even the lowest-ranking female is dominant over the highest-ranking male. This unique social dynamic makes them one of the most efficient and coordinated hunting units in the wild.

𝗧𝗛𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗦: Hyenas are often unfairly cast as the villains, leading to human-wildlife conflict and poisoning by farmers. In reality, they are essential "nature’s clean-up crew," preventing the spread of diseases like anthrax by consuming carcasses. Losing them would throw the entire African ecosystem into a chaotic imbalance.

Don't let the myths fool you—it's time to show some respect for the intelligence and strength of the clan! 💪
