What a meaningful day for Misamis Oriental!

Thank you so much Inters*x Asia for choosing our province as your Mindanao target site for the Inters*x Caravan Training, and to Inters*x Philippines for leading this transformative initiative in partnership with Manticao Pride.

It is truly an honor and privilege to be seen, heard, and visited in our province- a step closer to a more inclusive and compassionate society. May this be the beginning of a much stronger partnership in promoting inters*x awareness, protection, and rights.

PAGPAPALIT SA PANGALAN AT KASARIAN NG INTERSEX PERSONS, NAIS PADALIIN

Inihain ni Akbayan Party-list Rep. Perci Cendaña ang House Bill 5474 o "Cagandahan Bill" na layong hindi na ipadaan sa Korte ang pagpapalit ng pangalan at kasarian sa government documents ng mga inters*x person.

Sa ilalim ng panukala, kikilalanin ang s*x characteristics ng inters*x persons para maging basehan ng pagpapalit ng pangalan, palayaw, o s*x.

“Deserve ng mga Inters*x Filipinos na kilalanin sa mata ng batas. They should have the right to live in alignment with their identities without the tedious and expensive process of hiring a lawyer, proving themselves before a court, and waiting indefinitely for a ruling,” saad ni Rep. Cendaña.

As an advocate for SOGIESC and a champion of equality here in our municipality and throughout the province of Misamis Oriental, we stand with the Naawan LGBTQIA+ Organization in our shared call for fair treatment, justice, and equality for all. We acknowledge that the world is slowly learning to embrace us, but we cannot and will not tolerate acts of injustice.

For many years, we felt safe and welcomed in Tagbalogo, a place we considered home. But the recent incident that shook our community proved otherwise. Imagine the fear and pain of knowing that, at any time, one can be bullied or attacked without reason, simply because of who they are. This is unacceptable.

To the leaders of Barangay Tagbalogo, this must be your wake-up call. Leadership is not just a position, it is a responsibility. You are called to be peacemakers, protectors, and role models in your community. Allowing discrimination or violence to exist under your watch is a failure of duty.

And to those who continue to judge without knowing the full story, let me remind you: there are always two sides of the coin. Spreading false assumptions or careless remarks such as “mao na sumbagan kay nangoot” does not solve the problem, it only fuels more hate and division.

This is a wake up call not only for Tagbalogo but for every leader in our province. If you cannot treat us first as LGBTQIA+ members of the community, then at the very least, treat us as human beings. We feel, we hurt, and we deserve to live in peace and dignity just like everyone else.

We strongly hope that this issue will not just be heard but acted upon, with concrete resolutions that will ensure safety, justice, and equality for all. Because true progress can only happen when no one is left behind.

I recently attended the Civil Society Organization (CSO) Conference of the Local Government of Manticao, representing Manticao Pride as an accredited member of the CSO sector. In the previous term, We served under the Local School Board, and we are now participating in the re-accreditation process for the new term.

The conference reaffirmed the vital role of CSOs in participatory governance highlighting our contribution to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of local policies and services as active partners of the LGU.

We are optimistic that this new term will be marked by stronger collaboration, more inclusive facilitation of CSO engagement, and bolder initiatives. We look forward to continuing our shared mission of driving meaningful programs and community centered development in partnership with the LGU.
